what are you not understanding?

that's a small contest. they add contests of that size near lock time as the larger ones have already filled. these new ones fill very quickly.

Basic example is they have a 100,000 entry that looks like it will sell out(or already has) so they make the same tourney but with 1000 entries shortly before kickoff and it fills up very fast

If the answer is, "small contest, fills quickly", then that's the answer, just say it.

Payouts were too top heavy before, but paying out 30% is not a good solution. They should just pay out 30% in triple ups not GPPs. I think an ideal GPP would only pay out 15% of the field and the mincash would be double the buyin with 10% up top.

For instance a $3 GPP might look like this (based on $1,250,000 prizepool and 490,100 entries like this week's play action on DK)

the above would overpay the 1.25MM guarantee by a whopping $250 so just trim the bottom part of the structure by 41 people or make the $750 band pay through 74th place and bump 75th down to $500. This is 14.997% of people itm.

Everyone in the top 5,000 makes more or the same as under the current structure with the exception of 2,501-3,000 making $5 less under this structure and the bottom makes more in some spots and less in some but by tiny amounts bc the current structure escalates in $1 increments from $5-10 and then goes to $12 then $15.

In the above 3rd place pays what the current structure pays to first. 10th pays what 5th currently gets. 36-50 get what 16-25 currently get. Its a lot better for the top of the structure and is basically fully funded by the band that no longer mincashes $5.

The facts are that this was witnessed by a player I respect, saw exactly 1000 entries go in instantly minutes before kick off. One more note: the contest had 30 max entry.

So I asked for the community's thoughts in this manner. Saying "they gave away over $1mil" and saying "this is not overlay" (when it clearly is), is just ignoring the question really.

Was there more then 1 contest with the same rules going? I could have sworn on DK in a 20 field double up they combined like 3 partially filled contests at the time the contest went live to fill out the contest. Really did not care at the time so did not verify but it looked similar to what you described.

Just kind of doubt your friends understanding of dfs contests if he thinks small field 27s on dk are going to overlay.

Well, I know what overlay is, and ironically, from an operator's standpoint, the contest did actually overlay. (1037/1070, 33 short) That's how it will go down in the KPI.

doesn't your own screenshot show there are still 13 minutes until it starts? heck they will probably create and fill another small gpp in that time

this is obviously nothing more than his phone app glitching and the entry count refreshing all at once. I can't believe an experienced dfs player would expect huge overlay on a small late addition tourney

Yes this is more what serious plsyers meant when they said flatter payouts. Making the top spots besides first more meaningful not paying out more spots.

The 30 percent is what is ruining things for the most part.

Installments aren't that unusual,but the lobbying and the fees from those white shoe law firms must be astronomical.

Read the comments on these articles. Why do people hate the fact that there are people who do fantasy? Here's one quote, but they are almost all like this. "can't wait until both of these companies go under, and nobody can withdraw their money." I need to know how me doing a DK lineup has any impact on Stewart who lives in Delaware?

Those players are net withdrawers and not good for the games. Poker sites made the same mistake thinking your way. and it seems DFS sites are finally catching on.

The biggest looming problem is the game information is exactly the same for everyone, so it devolves into copying other people's homework. It's just a terrible core game design that is now entrenched until its death it seems. If you know which sources to use, you can field a competitive team by doing almost no work. Most fantasy sports players will be ok with this if they can eek out a miniscule +ROI.
