They ask for your SSN and put it on file when they issue you a 1099 so I'm not that surprised they would do the same on withdrawal.

Did dk see this coming? They went to a $5mm MM this week. This **** is spiraling out of control. I really wish congress would just step in and make it all legal through an explicit act of law. Idk how the fact that it's already legal doesn't matter but it doesn't seem like it does.

Now the question is who is pushing for this and will they keep pushing for it with other states

It has to do with the way NY state law is written. Florida likely coming very soon for similar reasons IMO. Prize pools gonna take a step back.

States will always have the right to ban DFS within their borders if they so choose. Congress doesn't have the power to force the states to allow DFS.

But is it the attorney general who has the power to ban it? I thought it was their responsibility to enforce existing laws not make them. There seems to be no law that makes DFS illegal in ny as far as I know.

Do they not needs laws to ban it? Was unaware the Attorney General can just order anyone to do whatever he wants at any time.

I just can't see how this can be a popular political move. Meantime, wondering if this is something that can be seen as a precursor to a ban (even if only in certain states) or a precursor to regulation coupled with revisions in laws to make it legal.

Gambling is already illegal in NY. AG is saying DFS is gambling.Courts may or may not uphold that if challegened.

The DFS sites need to grow some balls at some point and stop backing down every time a state asks them to. If they believe there is no law making DFS then fight it bros.

NY AG is stating that it's the position of the executive branch that dfs is illegal in NY. It's ultimately up to the judiciary to decide that question but the dfs sites will most likely cease operation in NY in the meantime.

Why should they cease now instead of waiting for the judge? What downside is there to waiting?

It's expensive to take on law enforcement. And usually fails. It would presumably be cheaper to lobby state legislatures. Or not have their industry look like a giant fly by night scam.
