I have always had this view, right from the beginning when I got into the industry.

Well here is something that anyone in DFS should closely watch:

I agree you have, sorry if my post came across any other way. If there is anything you think I or anyone else can do to help spread the message please let me/us know.

And I completely agree with this:

Quote:
Here is one thing that I have said to a few, well before the Ethan Haskell situation: enjoy DFS while it is here, learn it, get in there, get the money, this window might not be open or the model might not last.
Unfortunately, many are taking it to the extreme. I hope Rayofhope's initiative gets more focus. There is no reason sites can't try to level the playing field a bit. Low-stakes games should only be amongst low-stakes players.

-------

Also unfortunately, as a side note, I'm assuming that like most things gambling related we will all just bicker amongst ourselves until this whole thing falls apart, only then will we try to form some type of "fantasy players alliance" but it will be too late. I hope I'm wrong. This industry is very similar to online poker (all the channels accepting advertising dollars also accepted them for online poker, we used to think they were too big to outlaw too). All it takes is one Republican government shutdown and some loophole bill being attached to it to shutdown this too. Don't forget how UIGEA happened, we all thought that was impossible at the time too.

Here's your anti DFS scorecard so far.Frank Pallone (D),Greasy Harry Reid(D),NY AG(D), A Lee Bentley III US Atty.Central Florida Obama appointee.DFS wasn't on Repubs radar until Pallone started yappin.Republicans are a little busy chasing their own tails.Plus,I don't think bringing down DFS is much of a vote getter or fund raising issue. Can this guy in FL shut DFS down in the entire country like Preet did to poker?

P.S.what are the odds Reid goes to work for Shelly A.after he slithers out of congress.

JT,

It seems you know are taking a blanket approach with defending the sites across the board. Before you were calling for 3rd party regulation.

Do you now fear that wide sweeping regulation is imminent?

I see posts like these often on forums. People also claim the ad blitz is driving away new customers. The numbers say the opposite. Record numbers across the board. Two out of 40 million dfs players..

I think that it will continue to grow short term.

Long term there has to be some sort of neutral 3rd party regulator that these sites can point to as keeping the games above board.

If people keep losing. And we know most will. The "fix is in crowd" will start to grow.

Industry as a whole, I have never called for 3rd party (I assume you mean the government) regulation. I have always wanted (and try to spearhead) self-regulation, like the online horse-racing industry. (The other carve-out in UIGEA, which is still bigger than DFS in handle: 2015 Quarterly Online Racing Handles - Oregon Racing Commission)

Beyond the fact that I work in the industry, I feel if DFS can remain "legal" and gets it's act straight (by regulations, etc), it would be a better gateway for poker. (The current state by state path has stalled, if DFS can stay in the "skill game that works" category, poker maybe able to change some nay-sayers.)

Hrm, no "fear", as regulation is just needed and overdue. DFS is big now and might come regardless of what anyone thinks.

Note a quote in the following, posted today:

"We believe that fantasy sports should be legal and subject to appropriate consumer and competitive protections." - United States Sen. Robert Menendez and Congressman Frank Pallone

Federal Trade Commission could look into DFS sites after controversy

Those who dont play or care about fantasy football obv cannot stand the hype, I guess they want beer and blue boner pill ads instead?

How worried should I be as a Florida resident who's majority income is from dfs? Guessing I shouldn't quit my job like I was originally planning on?

Def get on the phone and call your local representative to support DFS. If I were you, I'd wait to see how this NFL season plays out, but that's me.

I don't play NFL but I'm assuming you just mean that in a time frame sense.

Can someone explain the risk to me? I don't understand the law or politics. I was just under the impression that DFS is 100% legal so what are they looking for? What could they do and how likely is it?

Anyone with any political or law insight that could answer this for me?

I live in FL and I actually can't stand this ****. I just want to be able to do whatever I want. I'm not hurting anyone!! And the government just sits around and tries to take away my freedom. WTF it seriously pisses me off.

End rant but please anyone with insight answer. I'll leave this ****ty state immediately if these clowns do something.

This is the stuff that irks me from a gaming prospective:

FD player "Kcannon" gets called out on RotoGrinders for massive scoping up H2Hs on FD of weak players.
He posts that script is approved by FD.
FD issues this statement:
  • Kcannon was fully cooperative with our investigation.
  • Due to confusion between parties regarding our policy, the previously approved script that was being used contained elements that did not meet our current terms, which we had recently clarified.
  • Once it was realized that our terms were not met, he ceased using the script.
  • We suspended the account pending investigation, and once our investigation concluded, his account was reinstated.

So at the expense of their game economy, in order to increase handle, they fuel power players to burn non-script customers. It's just straight gaming sense, there is a reason why Bovada/Bodog move to the "recreational poker model" (aka no usernames, no HUDs, no HH analysis/software), because it balances the game.

I am of the opinion they should issue a list of who is using "approved" scripts and why.

Who even knew you could use scripts? or the policy?

These high stakes pros are going to ruin DFS a game we all love by their selflishnsss

Pretty much every response has been poor. Blatant disregard for the customer base.

I honestly feel that these sites think they are planning for the long term. They aren't giving up profitability to fuel growth so they can make a few bucks next season. They want to firmly entrench themselves in modern sports culture. It seems that professional sports agrees because you have investments from MLB, NBA, and NFL (maybe more).

As a business, would you cater to your high value customers? If 1-2% of the player pool is making up 50% of your rake, it only seems natural to throw that exclusive group a few bones to keep them happy.

The reality is, they didn't expect this to happen. Its kind of the current state of things with social media. It doesn't help that everyone who watched any sport knew what DFS was because of the ads. Its possible that people lose interest in another week and nothing significant changes because of this. Likely some small changes will be made to appease the general public.

Also, the political stuff is whatever. Someone wants to look good, or wants to get paid, or thinks they are going make a difference.

Not sure if this is a level since you work in the DFS industry. Scripting has been a big issue all year, and RG has even released their own "approved" FD script for public use.

I understand why the big sites allow scripting, it helps meet revenue projections. I'm not sure I believe that FD/DK can enforce (or want to enforce) scripts that violate the TOS. With all the recent bad press, it seems being proactive here was a necessity.

Quit your job for DFS??? Why do this when you can be employeed at Draft Kings and watch your win graph go thru the roof. If it can happen to Ethan, it can happen to you.

My post and question is in response to FD scripting. I'm well aware of DK scripts.

The approved RG script is a DK one, can you post the link to the FD one?

They can't figure out that someone with 2000 lineups didn't edit all their lineups manually based on news right before kick off?

The issue isn't the scripting. Its the amount of volume they are allowing from players.
