I think one of the keys of fantasy baseball success is avoiding BPA and focusing on team construction. For roto anyway but meaningless in something like points. Balanced team construction in making sure you can compete in each category is more important than crushing one category and getting demolished in another.

I did 3 drafts this weekend and expect nothing even though I pretty much got what I wanted. This mini-season is a pure crapshoot and probably won't translate well to 6 month long strategies.

Yeah, my league is a h2h points league, so I think BPA is a solid strategy in this situation. 10 man league, top 4 will make the playoffs. To say I always know BPA would be a stretch. So who knows how my draft went? LOL. I'm much stronger at football and basketball than baseball, but I play with some friends.

Here is my team in order of picks from the 2 spot in a 10 man snake draft. We typically do keepers but elected to start fresh given the circumstances.

The strategy changes I made for the shortened season.

1. Usually I only carry 2 bench bats but this year it will be 3 since fewer ab's means you can't leave any on the table.

2. Usually only draft 4-5 starters and add as guys breakout and stream heavily the last 5-6 weeks. But this year drafted 6 starters and will have to start streaming 2-3 weeks in to get my innings.

3. Still got my 3-4 closers but ignoring those top quality setup guys I always had a couple of to boost ratios since there just isn't enough time and hey won't provide enough innings. I do however think there will be a few non drafted type relievers who are exceptional and especially in wins but they are too hard to predict.

Hope it works But my normal strategies and approaches are pretty much out the window this year.

Anybody playing this season? At the halfway point this year is every bit the shitshow I expected it to be. That said my 3 teams are somehow competitive and in contention. Top 3 get paid.

Team one - 4th place 14.5 points behind league leader. Great pitching and awful hitting if some guys get hot and the pitching holds up I have a shot.

Team 2 - 1st place 16.5 points ahead of second. Pretty much dominating across the board despite whiffing on my first 3 picks (Yelich, Flaherty, Clevinger). Hopefully I can hang on as everything is still one hot or cold streak away from changing drastically.

Team 3 - 4th place 16 points behind league leader. Sorta average/above average across the board not doing anything very well or very poorly. Once again no matter what happens the small sample season can shift on a dime.

I am looking forward to a real season next year when I can play the long game strategies that I feel are my edge.

Nothing really changed
Teams 1 and 3 both finished 4th just out of the money and really not far from 1st.
Team 2 ran away with it and bettered second place by 20 points.

This season was pretty much luck and variance on steroids. My 2 4th place teams were right were I woulda wanted them 2 months in but you need to have that grinder strategy to be able to make up the weak catagories and in a sprint you can't do that.

Hopefully next season will be back to normal and I can attack it with my normal approach.
