What are your thoughts on the conversation between JJ Zachariason and Mike Beers?
I try to employ the hyper-fragile draft concept, and it's been really successful for me.
gave it a listen, i think what he did is pretty standard to be honest
on yahoo, you can compare ADPs of players and you'll see that RBs get taken way earlier on average in best ball
you also got to consider this podcast is from the year of peak zero RB strategy. Passing was way up, running back committees were gaining popularlity and if you ignored, a lot of the RBs would fall to you pretty late for value.
he's also talking about what's essentially a winner take all strategy, which is something that best ball is moving away from
but more importantly, even if you go 3 RB first three picks, to not take a 4th with a late pick in the teams is just silly. There's a lot of decent RBs that fall super late and a 16th round RB typically has a higher ceiling than a 16th round WR. You only need James Conners to miss one game for Jaylen Samuels to have a huge week. Meanwhile Antonio Calloway is never going to be much higher than the 3rd or 4th option on CLE even if some guys get hurt
this one looks like 2nd & 3rd round picks went to RB and then from there I punted it and grabbed a few guys for bye weeks and what if flex, I typically prefer to get 3 solid RBs with different byes and then a 4th if they fall late
Here's one with a more traditional RB build for me where I hammer it with some early picks then quickly moved on to WR & TE before grabbing the last remaining guys with jobs in place, I usually punt QB but Rodgers fell super late and then Brees was still hanging around a few rounds later
I went Trequan and Allison there for QB correlation since I already felt I had a very solid set of 4 WRs so there decided to do some lineup correlation on guys I normally don't draft
Here are the kind of QB alignments I normally go with
I try to pair Kyler/Darnold whenever possible but the hype train is real so I can rarely get him without overpaying so my shares are far lower than I'd prefer
I found his bit about 3 DEF interesting, it is something I may have overlooked. Although on just giving a passing glance, the upside is fairly capped there and your DEF can't get a season ending injury so I prefer to stick with 2 there but definitely something I'll include as something to statistically test I expand my model for next season
