I just dont value his skill set much. I don't have him anywhere near the top 40, and in redrafts I'm probably not bothering to look at him unless I get to the ~8th round with a hole at 2B and hes still there. Which probably means I won't own any shares.

I personally place much more value on guys with proven power, and/or who hit in good lineups. Granted I play mostly OBP/OPS leagues and the only straight 5x5 leagues I play are YPros, but even in those I dont ever target guys like Merrifield.
Like donk mentioned, there are similar guys going much later and I'd way rather gamble cheaply on one of those if necessary, rather than use a top 15 pick on Trea or top 40 pick on Whit.

In the 6x6 leagues I play (and in all H2H in general), I just completely disregard steals and have had plenty of success. In 2H there is so much week to week variance that paying a premium for speed is almost always a mistake. The weeks you win steals 13-2 happen almost as often as the weeks you lose 2-3, and both scenarios suck.

Iraze,
For a buck, I think I'm definitely keeping Wheeler. I don't think Conteras is all that great, but I also think he's probably worth more at $3 than Mazara at $10.

If it's allowed in your league I would be trying prwtty hard to move Thor or Severino (or one of them + Mazara/Contreras/Berrios) for another big time bat - even if the hitter costs more than the guys you're giving up.

I really dont like going into a draft with that many pitchers. With 96 players being kept, I assume that almost all of the top 30 bats are being kept, and I want as many of those as possible, even if their keeper price is not as good of a "value" as a SP with a comparable ADP.

Even Villar is going ~85, and in 54 games with Baltimore last year had 8HR/21 SB. Around Merrifield is Soto, Bauer, Bryant, Kershaw, Rizzo, Severino going after him, it's not even close I'd rather have them.

You do realize Mazara had 40 walks last year right? Contreras had more and a higher OBP. Think it definitely is Wheeler and you get to have a big budget for bats (assuming this is 1 C league, if 2 C than definitely Contreras)
Wasn't Mazara also out like 2 months? His both their OBPs were around 350, its 1 C and I just hate the thought of keeping a catcher. So wheeler and Maz?

It's a weird year where a ton of the big bats were at their limit or were drafted for a **** ton last year and are getting thrown back. Off the top of my head Harper, Trout, Nado, Freeman, Betts, Goldy, JDM, altuve, Blackmon, KB, Rizzo, Marte will be available. Additionally, sale, kluber, Kershaw, Scherzer, and deGrom will be up for grabs as well

I tried to move 2 for 1 but no one is wanting to give up a top bat b/c they're all under 10 dollars and have a 2 years + left (Joram, breg, Hoskins, judge, Bellinger)

I hate the thought of keeping 4 SP's as well but they're be combined like $10 and I can just go draft 2-3 elite bats and fill in the rest of my pitching with middle tier/back end guys

He was, but his OBP's the previous 2 years were 320/323, so it's not like it was out of the norm.

Didn't realize it was keep 3 of the list, not 1. Wheeler is a lock as is Contreras, I lean Anderson>Mazara, Anderson is the higher drafted and better value. Locking up your UTIL's in keepers sucks, hopefully you can try to deal a SS sometime, but I just can't keep Maz at 10.

Wheeler at $1 is a lock. Too much upside for basically a free player for several years. Contreras has consistently displayed OBP skills, the power has been a bit up and down but I think I'd take that gamble for $3.

I'd lean Mazara even at $10 over Anderson. The FG auction calculator is saying Mazara is roughly a $16-$17 player, while Tim Anderson is maybe $2-$3. On top of that .. this is a bit of a team construct OBP thought - you may be taking just four bats into the auction. Machado is a substantial OBP asset (although not quite elite), Turner is good but not great and Contreras is solid but is a catcher who won't be racking up 600+ PA. Anderson just murders you there and while Mazara doesn't blow the doors off he should still be improving in his age-24 season.

I don't do auctions, but I would assume Contreras is a lock just because of position scarcity if nothing else, right? I mean, if he goes back into the pool he is going to go for more than that for certain, right?

I get that it's more of a value thing, but I would assume it's way more likely that you pay a premium to get back Contreras compared to Mazara.

Is that not right? (again, no auction experience)

thanks for the input everyone. Contreras will def go for 8-10, the thing about catchers is they're so easy to just find on waivers or get one for a dollar. there's really not much value in spending a lot of money for a player who only gets 450 ABs.

The biggest draw I have against keeping maz is his cost, I feel like he'll go for 10-12 and Anderson will go for 8-10 even though his OBP is trash

Just got offered Alex Bregman for Trea Turner same cost and same number of years. I like Turner's upside more but I get a 3B and move an SS - thoughts?

I like Bregman a lot more than Turner. I'd take that in a heartbeat

Even if you like Bregman more you should be able to get more than a straight up deal for Turner in most leagues.

12 team keeper, auction format, 5th year of league.
6x6 with OBP/SLG.
Repeat keepers increase by $5 each year. $300 budget.
We get to keep 6 players with no restrictions, plus an additional 2 players who are prospect/ROY eligible.
For reference, when first round type bats get thrown back they generally cost in the mid $50's up to the high 60's. Ace level SP can be cost anywhere from high $30's to ~$50.

Traded some cheap players to bolster my playoff run last year, and now have some not so great choices.
Right now I plan to keep:
$67 Trout
$35 Freeman
$31 deGrom
$16 Paxton
$3 Eloy Jimenez
-------------------------------
$1 Carter Kieboom (prospect)
$1 Peter Alonso (prospect)
Total used = $154
That leaves me 1 more keeper, or 2 more if I move Eloy to a prospect slot and drop one of the other two prospects. Who you like?:
Hicks $1
Skaggs $3
Ozuna $17
Votto $34

I also have a standing offer to trade Trout straight up for either $21 Story or $48 Harper

I would likely trade Story for Trout I think, maybe others will disagree

Some questions:
Do you have to keep 6? Which Hicks?

I'd move Eloy to prospect (cut Kieboom), and keep Votto/Skaggs I think (depending on which Hicks)

I think you're onto something.... if I take Story Id keep Story/Votto for 55 total which probably improves my keepers and still saves me $12.

Hicks is the NYYY Aaron Hicks fwiw.
I dont have to keep 6, I can keep fewer. But realistically Hicks at $1 is probably better than only keeping 5 right?

Yeah, I think I'd keep Aaron>Skaggs then, but yeah Story for 21 is just too good of a deal to pass up, as much as everyone wants to keep Trout

Made the deal, and got him to throw in $3 of auction budget.

Moustakas to Brewers, 1 year deal

Also, Bud Black (Rockies Coach) today said 2B spot is open for anyone, and could see playing Mark Reynolds there a bit.
Super annoying, just let Hampson play

have some (good, i think) keeper decisions

6x6 league, with OBP + TBs, and QS, SV+HLDs. can keep guys up to 5 years with increasing over time. and there are 3 N/A spots (for Rogers, for example)

need to pick 2 out of these guys, already keeping Acuna (26), Snell (13), and Bauer (11):

Blackmon, 6th rd, last year I can keep
Aguilar, 26th rd
Gennett, 26th rd
Gallo, 25th rd
Freeland, 26th rd
Brendan Rogers, 25th rd

Leaning Blackmon and Gennett
