I'd rather take another hitter.

I'd take madbum at 24 without hesitation if he's there

The concerns with him are simply anxiety over what's perceived as inevitable. He hasn't lost control, his velocity isn't diminishing and he's not running into injury problems

Hes never been a power pitcher to begin with, so I think what people are worried about is baseless compared to what makes him dominant

There is just so much info about innings before 25 that suggest injury is inevitable with him. Every year, I skip him "knowing" that the year I take him is the year the wear catches up. Ultimately, hitters are just a lot more stable and I'd rather take the 2nd rounder who's most certain to perform like a 2nd rounder.

1.5 Goldschmidt

Arenado is super tempting here as well as I think he has a legit shot to hit 45 homers and have 140 RBI this year in that lineup, but you've got 4 elite true 5 category hitters. Trout, betts, altuve, and goldy. Hard to justify only getting 4/5 categories especially when one of these guys is available. 30 steals at 1B is pretty insane and I think the power will increase this season along with the RBI assuming pollock stays healthy.

1B - Goldschmidt

agree, and I could prob go either way with Goldy and Arenado.

Iwreck made my life easy because Arenado and Goldy are awfully close for me. One thing lost in Arenado's various valuations IMO is the fact you can make late-round adjustments really easily this year to boost your SB totals with guys like Paraza, Buxton or Keon Broxton to make up for the SBs Arenado loses you when compared to the rest of the early 1st rounders.

3B - Arenado

Ya this is the first year that I can remember in a long time that I would actually be very ok with pick 5 and 6.

Agree can't fault anyone for going Arenado but you're basically trading off the Coors/Rockies lineup R/RBI upside for 20-25 SB. And 1B is sneaky bad IMO. And I hate rostering SB only guys (maybe a flaw in my roster construction). I like the Goldy pick here too

Imo 5/6 is the best spot AINEC this year in snakes.

Counterpoint to the late round steals guys: I feel like steals are going to be up this year from last and if some people who already got steals early reach for those guys you're SOL. Would rather sacrifice the 10-15 homers as there is a lot of power available late. Goldy and Betts also have the upside to get to 35-40 homers as well

Additionally like mentioned above 1B might be the shallowest position this year

Curious Iwreck, why do you think SBs will go up? If anything I'd think last year's HR climb would cause teams to limit themselves.

I do, you've got guys like bham, turner, Pereza who in theory should get a whole season of ABs this increasing the total amount. However should be repressed a little by the homer totals increasing like you mentioned which makes getting 20-30 and the power out of your top bat that much more important.

Last year if you recall it was a mad scramble to get steals in Roto leagues about halfway into the season

1.7 Kris Bryant

Love the way Bryant has been improving. His hard hit rate went up last season and his swing and miss rate went down. I expect his to continue to rise.

I think there is a bit of a line here. Taking Bryant was my only real option. Without steals Machado is a step down in HR & RBI and while Steamer might not think so, I think both will be around .290 BA. I just start having questions that make me uncomfortable about a first round pick after the first 7.

Such a fascinating draft year in that Bryant at 7 is such value but I don't know who I take him over

Agree 5/6 is the money pick this year

Really interested to see how SRM builds his team behind Kershaw. I've seen two different theories. One, where you take some offensive upside risk guys. The other where you just load up pure volume on hitting not taking another pitcher for 10 rounds.

In a h2h this would be my strategy for sure. Less so in a roto

Really short on time today. I dont think this one needs much explanation but I can post my thoughts later tonight if you guys want. I dont want to hold up the draft.

1.9 Manny Machado

Number of guys I could have gone with here, but he's very young, with big time power. His numbers the past two years have been first round quality, and he is still young enough for decent improvement. Bonus for both SS and 3B eligibility.

A little surprised at bro over Macho man, but I guess he's the high-ceiling play.

1.10 - Josh Donaldson

Pretty easy pick here. The last 2 seasons have been remarkably consistent and he's pretty much a lock for 35/100/100 with a, .280+ average.
