If you need pitching, A.J. Griffin is running a K/9 over 10 and a WHIP below 1.00 over 20 innings, and is only 7% owned on ESPN.

Next start at the Padres Tuesday

edit pony is slow lol

Not unless you are playing in a league with Gio's mother.

Bellinger is on my bench... I need some help. OBP/SLG - roto. Which one would you bench?

Carpenter
Bellinger
Conforto
Benintendi
KDavis

I'm leaning on benching whoever of the above is facing the harder matchup, otherwise bench conforto if he is facing a lefty, otherwise bench Bellinger. Does that make sense, or should I be benching Benintendi before Bellinger?

I really wish they'd shift those percentages to pro leagues instead of universal. Guarantee he's at least 95% owned in a YPL and probably closer to 100

Having said that, your point is well taken and I tip my cap to you sir

agree those percentages are almost useless, they don't factor in all the gimmick leagues, abandoned leagues, AL only etc.

I would bet he is available in close to zero Ypro leagues, he is avail in zero of my 14 leagues.

They were talking about going to a 6 man rotation with Montgomery so I would guess him.

speaking of replacing pitchers..

tell me why I shouldn't be interested in JC Ramirez

-above average swstr
-throwing mad heat (95+mph) even as a starter
-seems like he was a prospect once
-sort by K%-BB%, become a fantasy expert

Im hesitant to trust anyone that was a pitcher in the minors for a literal decade, but let's take a look. K/9 in 70 innings at the major league level last year was 6.75 and this year its 10.08. His Fastball velocity is down a tish this year from last (95.8 vs 96.3) so that's not where that increase is coming from. His BB% is up a bit too from last year, so it's not like his K-BB% is coming from striking more out and walking less. It's just striking out more.

So what's happening? Well, it seems like he's throwing his slider a lot more. He was 73.5% fastball, 25.7% slider last year and that's changed to 39.7% FB, 45.9% slider this year. Looking at the pitchf/x for the slider it seems like there's a bit less contact being made against it than last year. SwStr% is up from 14.2 to 17.7, ocontact/zcontact/contact% are all at career lows.

The thing is last year the pval/c was a -1.2 for his slider and it was -1.7 the year before. This year its +1.0. So he's throwing his below average pitch at a much higher clip, but now it's positive. Is it due to a small sample and will correct? If so, dudes gonna get shelled soon throwing it 45% of the time. Or did he improve the pitch somehow, get people to swing and miss more, and now will ride a positive pitch at a higher clip to a career year?

Hard to say for me. I lean the first one but my confidence isn't high. Was an interesting look though, thanks for turning me onto it.

would've gotten away with it if it wasn't for that meddling Jim

anyway, good analysis, and the pitch mix i think is bang on. I read this from Eno Saris:

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/jc-ra...-as-a-starter/

he details his change in mentality/pitch mix moving from reliever to a starter. I get his point about the bullpen work being more velocity and fastball centric - seems like he's consciously trying to change that (maybe the slider was the hidden gem all along - sure seems like it).
