Ya conforto's not available in your league unless it's like, 8 man

The question now is how legit is this

why aren't we more alarmed that despite his numbers, Bundy's K% has been way down and the velocity trending downwards?

I'm very alarmed and would consider selling. He's down 2-3 mph and this is with the data changes where consensus is everyone gained half to a full mph.

Today was 4 BB and 2 K, lol one game and against Boston .. meh. I guess you gotta keep rolling him out there if he's on your roster.

3 of his starts have been against Boston, who has struck out less than any other team fwiw. In the other 3 he has 17 k's in 19 1/3 ip, although those have been against 2 of the leading teams in the league in striking out (TB and Toronto x2). The velocity dip is certainly concerning though, and selling any non-Sale pitcher in the AL East seems like a decent idea.

Small sample, but worth keeping an eye on:

Alex Avila leads the league in wRC+ with 40+ AB's, above Zimmerman, Harper, Trout, etc.
.400/.510/.750, 1.260 OPS, has 4 HR in 40 AB. If he starts to get regular playtime at C when Miggy comes back, could be a decent pickup.

Eduardo Rodriguez or Alex Wood?

Like both this week. Rodriguez is the better long-term play.

In roto you have to take closers earlier than you may think. I always start taking closers no later than the 6th round. Once they are gone they are gone and it is a very finite resource. There will be shifts and injuries in the closer landscape though so keep alert and grab guys when changes happen. Easier said than done since others will be all over those changes as well. Speculate on guys who could become closers.

Look at all those hitters you took after the 6th round and see how many of them you would be willing to trade right now straight up for a solid closer. Probably any of them Thing is nobody will part with a closer for a typical bat. Closers gain value once the season starts.

I'm pretty sure you'd be able to land any closer you want with thames, Khris davis, judge, Jose Ramirez, tendi, ozuna, sano, etc

Of course with the vast over performers. I'm talking about the guys who are just doing what they were expected to do. Lets say a .275 hitter with 3-4 HRs and 10-15 R's and RBI's and a stolen base. And many drafted in that range aren't even doing that. You aint getting a solid closer for them.

You have had much different experiences trading closers than I have. A closer almost always seems to be worth an 80/20/80/.270 guy. 10-14th round. Unless he's elite.

And with elite closers, it's rare people are actually willing to stomach such a huge hole in their lineup to get the closer. So they rarely seem to get traded at all.

Discussing fantasy baseball strategies in the fantasy baseball thread makes me a troll? Go into a roto league and try to trade some typical 6th/7th/8th round hitter for an established closer. Guys like Frazier, Pedroia, Cain, LeMahaeu, Bradley Jr. etc. Nobody will do it for a couple reasons.

All of those guys are easily replaceable but a closer isn't. The guy with the closer probably has just enough or more likely not enough and losing one of this commodity hurts him more than adding one of these middling hitters will bring. And if a guy has a surplus of closers he probably did it so he could deal one for a real prize to some guy who ignored closers and won't just give them away without extracting a lot of value. Plus quality closers will typically help with era/whip and K's making closer inning very valuable.

yeah it's the subtlety with which you do it that truly makes you a master

I'm never trading DJL for a closer like osuna and Ramos. If you drafted Cain or pedroia in the 7th round then you weren't destined to win at fantasy baseball anyways

Draft stategy isn't helping much at this point. Before next season decide beforehand whether you're going to pay up for saves or not. I never do in roto, and this what I'd be doing now:

Keep an eye on Addison Reed and Brad Brach. Both may be dropped as Familia takes over the 9th and Britton comes back.
Both are good k/9, whip guys and will jump back into the closer role if something happens.

I'd also be picking up guys like Arodys Vizcaino, Nate Jones, and Jacob Barnes. Atlanta, Chicago, and Milwaukee are teams probably looking to move their closer.

Look for other guys who are high k/9, low whip guys on teams without much closer controversy on high win teams. They'll only get the closer job due to injury, but they'll cushion your ratios if you end up feeling the need to trade for a Melancon or Jim Johnson type later in the year.

re: closer stuff,

the best way to keep tabs on closers is to check either the almost daily Fangraphs Bullpen Report, or closer monkey.

They both have closer depth charts for all 30 teams, and are the first places to go if it looks like a team is making a change.

with Greg Bird to DL, may be worth keeping an eye on Chris Carter if he gets regular play time at 1B

i'm in a 10 team league on yahoo which has semi-weird (i think? idk i never played really until this year) pitching categories with w/l/era/k9/whip/saves but you only need 24 innings a week and we have a lot of bench spots. i have been mostly punting wins while sometimes winning losses but winning on ratios and saves with a bunch of mediocre closers. my sp right now are paxton, verlander, maeda, quintana, cole. i have been raking pretty much in offense but i have no backup for SS or 2b with trea turner and trevor story. would it be fine to trade quintana or maeda for brad miller since he has eligibility at both ss and 2b just for more counting stats? obp league fwiw

gyorko already on another team fwiw

Hard to gauge without batting catergories, but Miller shouldn't be a starter, and you dont need a backup in a 10 team league. You're also basically selling low on both pitchers.

batting categories are obp, sb, hr, r, tb, rbis

maybe FPS here or really bad idk. def selling low on quintana i just figured he doesn't strikeout a lot of people so doesn't help k/9 all that much and pitchers a bit easier to find on waivers. first year taking it seriously so prob dumb. guess i just figured with 24 innings lately i have been sitting a lot of pitchers late in the week to win the ratios and would prefer counting stats for batters when one of story or turner sits

7x7 roto with standard plus Ks and OPS for hitters and Losses and K:BB for pitchers.

Two keeper slots.

Got offered Odubel and LeMahieu for Syndergaard and Peraza. Trying to upgrade to Brantley. Too greedy?
