even still

1. no closer has been named yet
2. hudson has been the better of the 2 by far this spring
3. hudson throws harder
4. hudson is an RHP
5. hurdle is an old school manager and old school managers love them some hard throwing RHP as the closer

i'm not saying watson should be undrafted, i'm saying he shouldn't be drafted while paying the premium that comes with him being the lock incumbent closer until such time as he officially has the job

hrm, fair points, though Felipe Rivero referred to him as the closer in this USA Today article from a few days ago:

Actually, I wouldn't call Hurdle old-school. Pittsburgh was one of the first teams to get heavy into shifting and he totally embraced it when the front office brought it to him. He's an old dude, but I think he's pretty progressive.

Yeah, just saying don't depend on Watson, and Hudson is a nice stash and see option right now

Yeah, def a solid handcuff.

The problem with that is Hudson isn't going undrafted, which means you'll need to use 2 picks, one fairly high and one still above the bottom to secure the Pittsburgh closer, or just guess blindly between the 2

And no matter who the closer is it's safe to assume their leash isn't long. Better to avoid the situation altogether

Agree avoiding the situation to some extent, but if you are putting the Pirates in that category it seems like you're down to like 20 viable options? Not really feasible in anything deeper than 12 teams

Had my first of three real money drafts.

It's a standard 5x5 roto, 1400 innings, 12 teams, two utility players, 3 OF, and no ci/mi.

I waked away with this team:

C: Schwarber
1b: Adrian Gonzalez
2b: Cano
ss: Lindor
3b: Bryant
OF: McCutchen
OF: Morales
OF: Sano
UTIL: Victor Martinez
UTIL: Kole Calhoun

SP: Bum
SP: Carrasco
RP: Oh
RP: Herrera
P: K Rod
P: Rodney
P: Manaea
R: Odorizzi

Bench: Byron Buxton
Bench: Heyward
Bench: Bird
Bench: Inciarte
Bench: Profar
Bench: Dyson

How do we like it? It's my cheapest league, so learning roster construction errors now would be beneficial.

OBP league, keeping D Murphy and Trea Turner. Keep G Sanchez or Bregman? I had Sanchez written it, but tough choice. Keeper will be for this year only.

This year only - Sanchez (whole career I'd tend to avoid a C). If its a two catcher league there is virtually no discussion from my perspective.

From a roster construction POV, my main issue would be using five of your six bench spots on hitters. I know you can go to the WW but where are you going to get 1400 innings? Which you pretty much need to do or you are really digging yourself a hole for W/K.

that's assuming that's not Jarrod Dyson

Yeah good point I assumed S Dyson given the other closers on the roster

SRM,
what kind of prop bet are we going to make this year?
Something with Desmond, Duffy, or Hill?

How the **** does Alex Bregman have MI eligibility on Yahoo?
For that matter how does anyone get MI without having either SS or 2B??
This is a lot more egregious than the Schwarber C thing imo.

His original position was SS. Not sure if that's why, but seems to be in line with the Schwarber reason.

The Schwarber thing was because he did not play enough games to qualify at *any* position last year so they projected his eligibility - which is in line with what they do for any player, including prospects, who did not appear in enough MLB games to qualify at any specific position.
That wasnt the case with Bregman.

EDIT - think i figured it out. He started 4 games at SS and 1 game at 2B, so MI?
Which is really ****ing stupid. The first qualifier for having MI elig is having either SS or 2B elig. But the tards at Yahoo completely lack common sense.
