You turned down Altuve for Harper??
In an ultra deep league where there are literally no 2B on waivers maybe I can see an argument, but in a league where only ~16 2B are owned... I could never turn that down.
Not that it's relevant in terms of this trade because my eyes were playing tricks on me but looking at it in a general sense I think looking strictly in a vacuum in an avg league Altuve v bro comes down to how you value certain categories
Homers are up and you can get them in a lot of places. Steals are definitely at a premium, especially steals that come with a .300 avg. Now that gordon is a roider (lol) how many people in baseball can you count on for a .300+ avg and 35+ steals? Just Altuve. Marte will get the 35 steals but im not sold he'll get a .300 avg. Probably close enough
That doesn't on its own make him more valuable than harper but it does put him among the handful of most valuable players in baseball even if he doesn't hit a single homer (if gordon weren't a 2b he's still a top 25 adp imo instead of 16th or whatever it was from the 2b)
And now altuve's homering too, which is where in a vacuum he's surpassing bro. In the last 3 seasons counting this one you're seeing the same year to year exponential growth rate of power that you're seeing with machado. It's on a smaller scale, sure, but it's the same general idea of 'holy ****, this guy might actually have grown into a power hitter now.' Everyone (including myself) dismissed the 18 homers last year as a fluke he won't repeat and now he's on pace to crush it. At some point, like with machado, and like Arenado before him, you have to dismiss history and accept that he's adapted and developed as a hitter and value accordingly
