I am starting a Guillotine League for Week 5. Here's the details:

What is Guillotine format?

Guillotine is a fantasy football format where after each week, the team with the lowest score out of all teams in the league is eliminated. All of their players are dropped to the waiver wire and the remaining teams can bid on them as they normally would waiver-wire players, using FAAB.

Draft date: Saturday, Sept 29 at 6pm EST. (Note: Week 5 is the first week of the league, so stats accumulated for Weeks 1-4 matchups do not matter).

Elimination Process
This league will 14 teams and start on Week 5. Here's how it will go:
Weeks 5-14: One team is eliminated each week (14 teams becomes 4 teams)
Weeks 15-16: A two-week matchup is played between the remaining 4 teams. Whoever has the highest 2-week score of these 4 teams wins the championship.

What it means to be "eliminated"
Everyone in the league has a 200 acquisition limit for the season. When someone is eliminated, I will do the following:
1. Use LM-powers to drop their entire team to waivers.
2. Use LM-powers to set their acquisitions >200 so they are unable to make any further moves.

Week 15/16 is a 2-wk matchup between the 4 remaining teams for all the marbles

Obviously the biggest mistake you can make in this format is getting eliminated before you spend your FAAB

Yeah, really good point. Hopkins is easily a top WR who will stay on your team until the end so he's def worth a good amount. I would have expected one of the teams who did poorly last week to bid a lot on him though rather than a team that seemed to be pretty solid.

Thanks for all of the work you're doing Josh! I'm still not sure how I feel about the $22 I spent on Bell last week. Still seems fine, but I was really hoping he'd be back next week when making the bid. Now, it's not looking so good.

Odell, Brady, AP, Rudolph, and maybe Darnold for a team weak at QB really only the biggest possible pick ups this week with the Kupp injury. I'm sure someone will get Kupp, but he certainly won't be playing for a few weeks minimum with an MCL sprain.

Hyde and OJ wouldn't be bad pick ups either.

Bidding strategy is super interesting, I lowballed last week just because I didn't know where people were at plus my team looked pretty clear of last few spots. Definitely keen to get this going again next year

Brady for 20 seems like a steal. Darnold for 8 also doesn't seem too bad

Rudolph for 1 seems solid. Damn I hope bidding a bit light on OBJ doesn't come back to bite me!

Def interested in running this again next year (maybe for some more $ and maybe with a discount on my buy-in so it's more worth my time given the manual work required - though I do enjoy running it!). The biggest thing I am struggling with right now is how to expand it to a full season. Here's my thoughts so far -

If we had started on Week 1, we would need 18 teams in the current format. I really like the SuperFlex aspect of it since when we get down to the final 4 teams I didn't want only 4 QBs to be owned. Could SuperFlex + 18 teams cause an issue? I'm not sure - there would certainly be an extremely high demand for QBs. Maybe in that format, I would drop QB Passing TDs to 4 points so that QBs aren't so valuable.

I want there to be some degree of skill involved at the end, and that's why I went with larger rosters and a 4-team final. I think smaller rosters and a 2-team final would be more of a crapshoot and would marginalize the process of accumulating top players from waivers throughout the season.

Bah wanted Kearse for this week, considered throwing in $1 just in case but thought people would be too dazzled with OBJ/Kupp and he'd be left alone

I wanted Gore for this week, so I bid $2 on him even though he’s definitely not worth that long-term.

Although, I’m hoping he keeps stealing more and more carries from Drake, and maybe even some TDs.
