SB v BB 3 bet pot.

Flop Ts 9d 5s
SB cbet 65% pot
BTN call

Turn Jc
SB check
BTN bet 45%

SB folds AT

Was surprised to see SB x/f AT.
It feels like AT is well ahead of BTN turn betting range when checked to. It includes hands like 65s, 54s, 75s, 76s, 87s, K9s, AQ, AK, KT, 77, 66, and some FDs.

What could be the reasoning behind this? Is it that there are too many rivers we're going to have to check fold if SB x/c's turn?

I think he means SB 3-bet vs BTN and c-bet the flop, then checked the turn.

AT isn't very high in SB's range at that point, but you'd have to look at some rivers (many of which are bad for AT, as OP alluded to) to see what villain does on them, and how SB's range reacts to a river bet.

And yes, this is a SB 3 bet vs BTN flat spot.

Both KT and QT make better calls than AT, since they have a straight draw in addition to the pair and also block some made straights.

Also if you look at the button's turn betting range, the ace in SB's hand actually blocks a lot of hands that AT is ahead of. AKo, AQo, AQs and A8s-A2s are all being bet at some frequency.

^ Yeah this

AT is a worse call than enough other calls that it becomes a fold vs that sizing. It's your worst Tx due to card removal and playability.
