What should ranges be based around? What should ranges be based around?

Should ranges be based around board textures, or the actions a player can make on any given street in each position? (check-call, check-raise, 3Bing, bet-call).

Should ranges be created outside of gameplay then used when playing?

For example if a coach creates a turn CBing range in a coaching video are they just doing this as a theoretical exercise or are they going to adhere to this range?

1. All of the above.

2. Yes.

3. Both. You can learn a strategy away from the table, and then you implement it to the best of your ability when the situation (or something similar) comes up in the game. e.g. You can try to memorize pre-flop shoving ranges for a tournament, and then you use your memory when you're in the game.

Yes, having figured out ranges is a good starting point. Following them blindly without an eye to other factors is a way to leave money on the table (at best) or getting yourself into deep trouble (at worst).
