Hi there, as title states, I am super rusty at EV math since not playing for a long time.

I can't remember how to calculate the EV of a river bet when it's for value (or otherwise I guess)

Let's say we have 65% equity and bet 10 into 10 on the river and it's an AI shove and villain always calls.

Is it, 65% we win 10 and 35% we lose 10, or is it 65% we win 20 and 35% we lose 10? or what is it lol

Many thanks for any help.

On a hero shove that is called, the EV equation is

EV = eq*(Pot + Bet) – (1-eq)*Bet

where Pot is the pot before the shove bet.

So a win is the pot + bet(=call) and a lose is the bet

For your example:

EV = 0.65*20 - 0.35*10 = 9.5

It can get more complicated when such factors as raises, folds, multiway, future streets are involved.

Awesome man thanks for the info.

The other thing I was wondering is do you know any resources I could look at to learn more of the math/brush up, like a book or something.

Thanks

There is an excellent series in the Beginner's forum titled Mathenoobics. Use the 2p2 Search function.

I have a 4 part Blog - Introduction to EV Analysis. The link to Part 1 is shown below.
