Hi,

I have a question regarding bounty builders and how to make it easier and quicker to calculate pot odds when a bounty is on the line. I watched this video by bencb789 a highstakes mtt crusher https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sU12AnPfliM&t=1360s @ 0:28 he has 12big blinds but with his bounty he says that he has rouqhly effectively 7-8 big blinds(here is where im confused. How do you calculate this? if we take for granted that a starting bounty in this case is rouqhly 35k chips or 9big blinds then you would think that you could subtract 9bb with your starting stack 12bb, that however obviously doesnt equate to 7-8bb. Some context to the tournament he is playing, starting stack 100,000 half of your buyin($54) goes to the regular prize pool and half of it to the bounty prize pool($54), if you knock out a player you collect half of the bounty and the other half goes to your head.

Super appreciative of any answer <3

We know half your buyin is worth 100000 chips because that's what you start with, so the bounty half must also be worth 100000, but you only get half of it when you knock someone out so effectively a starting bounty is worth 50000 chips and from there you can calculate the chip value for any bounty.

It's more complicated than this because bounties create a snowball effect where if you win one you increase your chances of winning others in the future. In addition you increase your chances of winning the tournament which also has a bounty equity attached to it. This effect gets magnified as you get deeper into the tournament, but the simple method of having a starting bounty = half a starting stack will be a good approximation in the early to mid stages.

Thanks for your answer! But lets say we know for a fact that in a certain situation the bounty is gonna be worth 35k chips(you mentioned 50k which is incorrect, I cant go into detail now) is there a way to deduct the bounty chip value with the chip stack?

If you think it's worth 35k chips then facing an allin you just add 35k chips to your pot odds, pretending it's dead money. But I'd be curios to know why you think it's 35k and not 50k.

Don't think that "deducting" is the right way to think about it, rather, you pretend it's a bonus of dead money.
