So I usually just figure that if the opponent has 1/3rd of their stack in by the river then we're set up for an SPR of 1.

I just give or take on this, so if I want a 2/3rd PTSB shove on the river I roughly estimate that I need about 40%~ of their stack in by the river.

Is there a simpler way of doing this? What are your methods?

Do you mean calculating it on a flop? Because turn is quite straightforward, you're just adding to the pot your turn bet * 2 and whatever villain would have left over relative to that pot.

Also, it would be 3/4 psb shove in your example.
