Say we open from the CO to 2bb and get raised by the button to 7bb. In theory, we should be defending 29% of the time. As I construct my range I was wondering; Does my 4betting range include parts of my defending range? Or is the percentage of the defending separate from 4 betting range?

So example I raise from the CO with 400 combos. I should be defending 120 combos total (Lets say calling 100 combos and 4betting 20?) Or calling 120 combos and then 4betting x amount of combos?

Defense includes both calls and raises. Think of it as a continue range and a non-continue range.

Where are you getting 29% from?

I got the number from the book "applications of no limit holdem". I was confused at first why 29% because it seems as though button would be auto-profiting seeing as how they need 67% of folds. But i guess it's taking into consideration the blinds that are still left to act after Button 3bet

29% is definitely not what you should defend
Pen and paper math can only take you so far, so I would avoid banging my head against the wall too much
