Adjustments to deep live NLHE with UTG straddle Adjustments to deep live NLHE with UTG straddle

Hi, did a quick search but could not find much on the subject.

What are the general pf adjustments I should be making in a live full ring NLHE game with a manadatory UTG straddle that generall plays 2-300bb deep (2/5/10, 2-3k stacks)? Cheers

What is your skill relative to the field? What is the field like in general in terms of skill?

Generally you should be more aggressive attacking the blinds from later positions because there is more dead money in the pot. Your SB opening and defense ranges will be much tighter due to the SB investment being smaller relative to the straddle and the fact you need to get 2 people to fold.

BB opening would be a little wider due to SB dead money and only 1 player to get through. Obviously BB defense would be tighter for the same reasons as the small blind (i.e. player behind and less money invested relative to the straddle blind).

Straddle defense would be the same as regular bb, probably even wider if people are attacking the straddle more.

In terms of deep stack play you need to make hands that make the nuts so stuff like suited aces go up in value relative to suited connectors which make dominated hands more often. Not saying you can't play suited connectors but that their reverse implied odds go up.

Also with deep stacks you may have do more overbetting to get all in so if you have never experimented with overbetting or large bets you may be missing value or at a disadvantage vs someone who is more familiar with them.

Edit: Also with stacks that deep you may find yourself in a betting sequence where you haven't really thought about your range before so take some time in game to think about those decisions longer when you get in a situation like that.

Thanks for your reply.

I would say the field is quite mixed. There are some excellent regs, some solid regs, some weaker regs/recs and then the occasional whale.

Within that I am not as good as the best regs but would put myself in the solid category.

Should I be tightening up my rfi oop to the excellent regs and also defending less vs them but trying to play looser vs the weaker players?

Also would you significantly change any of your ep, mp RFI % compared to a two blind full ring game?

Ideally if you can choose your position without making it obvious/bad for the rec players then you would take position on the whale first, then the regs if possible.

I wouldn't necessarily adjust my default strategy too much against good players. Start out with your normal opens and see how the hands play. Adjust accordingly as you get comfortable with the table dynamics. I would definitely defend liberally from the straddle depending on the raise size and as I said less than normal in SB/BB unless the whale happens to be after you.

I probably wouldn't change it too much, keeping in mind ep/mp are going to be one position closer to the button than normal. It's just hard to steal the blinds with so many players yet to act and you will sometimes be oop postflop so making money will be harder.

Again depends on the positions of the other players relative to your position.
