Adjusting RFI based on how loose passive the table is Adjusting RFI based on how loose passive the table is

I understand and adjust my RFI ranges to the 3 bet tendencies of my table fairly well but I realized I do not understand how to adjust to an increased or decreased willingness to call preflop.

This is 6 max 100bb stacks on all

I realized this today when I was faced with an RFI decision UTG with QTs (the bottom of my standard RFI range for big suited cards along with JTs), and on my immediate left was someone with 38 VPIP in HJ and 54 VPIP in CO. Both players, as well as the rest of the players at the table, had 3 bet percentages between 5.5-7.5%.
I was unsure if these players having position on me should make me open tighter or looser?

You can probably tighten and throw away the bottom of your rfi range and maybe size up your open a little to discourage calls if that's what you want.

But there is a limit to how much the little bit of additional equity gets you with a tighter range. You also have to be solid postflop.

The low 3-bet percentage means you'll see the flop pretty often as the PFR, but will be OOP pretty often, so post-flop playability becomes more important. e.g. QTs will be a good hand, but ATo and 66 might be troublesome, as these latter hands don't realize equity as well as suited Broadways do. A5s arguably becomes a better UTG open than A9s or possibly even AJo, depending on whether your opponents call with dominated offsuit aces, or just lots of suited connectors/gappers. e.g. If they call pre with A8o, then AJo is a great hand. If they call with T8s-64s, then A5s has huge potential, while AJo does not.
