15-40bb tournament optimal ranges

Hi,

I have lately been wanting to get my hands on some optimal ranges with shorter stacks that include a break down of every combo of open raising, defending vs 3bets, 4betting etc. And also cold calling 2b, 3b/calling off, 3b/folding etc.

I don't know if I should buy a preflop solver myself or subscribe to either RYE or upswingpoker, I know they provide some ranges(I'll have to take a closer look).

I'm trying to figure out whats more profitable because these training sites goes for $900~ and something like monkersolver is $500. Also worth adding, I believe running sims for a single spot takes like 30 days lol.

Highly appreciate any help!

What I would do if you are on a budget is this:

-Look into preflopsolver
-Buy the cheap version of Pio (it’s $299 I think)
-Get the seven day free trial of PokerSnowie and manually transcribe its ranges/ see if you can find them on the internet.

The Upswing tournaments course by Nick Petrangelo includes ranges that were made by combining Pio, Monker, Snowie and Petrangelo’s own experience. The ranges for that course are, in my opinion, much better and closer to what I believe is optimal than the RYE ranges for their equivalent high-end tournament course, which are tighter. However, the RYE ranges are probably better for a worse player, since you will find yourself in fewer marginal spots.

You could, although it would be laborious, therefore create your own pseudo-optimal ranges using a similar method to Petrangelo’s by yourself. The process would also improve your understanding of the game (and memory of the ranges!) hugely too.

Don’t know about Monker but takes much less than 30 days with Pio. More like 24h depending on the spot.

I’d do something along those lines. Pio will just be cool to have, too. The actual Upswing Course I found immensely boring tbh, the RYE one a bit better.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for responding! I believe preflop solving in pio is only available for piosolver edge which is 1.1k I believe. Do you know any other preflop softwares or services which can help me with this? Anyways I will weigh my options for a while and ask both upswing and rye for a more in depth break down of what they offer!

Solutions take extremely long and you need a **** tonne of RAM: 64gb minimum and 128gb for anything decently complicated.

I'm far from an expert on this topic, but I think the RYE and Upswing tournament courses are both highly regarded. Although it's a significant investment with each one, people have said that the pre-flop range charts are worth the price on their own.
You can save a significant amount of time (if nothing else) by looking at those charts instead of trying to compute your own with a solver.
A solver is probably more useful for analysing post-flop situations, given the ranges that the courses are suggesting.

I guess you're right, I'll probably wait till it's on sale and then fire one off. Choosing between RYE or upswing will be tough though, will have to do some research.

Do you think PokerNerve or RIO has ranges and PIO videos that are worth considering with RYE and Upswing?
