Here's just a general example, not a specific hand, but this kind of situation comes up a lot. Maybe someone has a link to where this has been discussed before.

Let's say for example 1-2 blinds, 100 BB starting stacks.
Hero is IP and opens LP to 3BB.
Villain is OOP and completes from BB.
PF pot 7BB.

Hero flops TPTK on two-tone board.
Villain checks.
Hero bets 3BB.
Villain calls.

Turn pot 13BB. Turn is off-suit blank.

Villain checks.
Hero bets 10BB.
Villain calls.

I'm thinking what to do if a favorable card comes, if a blank card comes, or if a bad card comes, when...
The bad card comes. River brings flush completing card.
River pot = 33BB.
Villain leads for 33BB.

Annoying situation. A card came that hits the Villain's range and he leads out.

Current Stacks are Villain 52BB, Hero 84BB.
New pot = 66BB.
Hero pot odds are 33%.

I find this to be a tough spot, and I was wondering if there are ways to navigate this type of situation to be better prepared for how to respond. Does anyone have any insight on how to evaluate this river situation, and/or whether I should be playing the flop and turn any differently to kind of help to preemptively deter this situation somehow?

Excluding exploits (if you know V donks with big hands regularly, you fold...etc).


You'll do more calling when you have one of the FDFD suits in your hand, and less calling when you don't.



In theory you'll still have to call without the FDFD suit in your hand at a frequency that doesn't allow your opponent to over bluff when they have one of the suits in their hand. But, you'll be calling at a smaller frequency than when you have suit in your hand.


For example, the runout Ah 7h 4d 2s 9h.......if you have AK for TPTK, and the action goes as you described, you'll be calling all combos with Kh 100% of the time. And without Kh 50% of the time.
