[GTO] How to actually approach GTO / become better at poker

Hi guys,
not a concrete question relating to a special spot, but more of a meta question:
When I last played poker (~10 yrs ago), solvers weren't really a thing yet. As I see now, poker has evolved quite a bit. I'm now trying to figure out my way how to improve as a player. Since I'm restarting in the microlimits, I probably would prefer to do this both in terms of exploitive play to be most profitable in these games, but I also want to be able to play a more optimal game.
How did and do you approach the game? Do you just review your hands with a solver? Do you try to identify certain situations in advance and design certain plays?
I've recently seen a Daniel Negreaneau video where he was playing online and he hinted that he literally throws a dice (or uses some other form of RNG) to decide on certain situations, where he obviously needs to have worked out the frequencies in advance.
Are there any other good resources that I should be aware of, e.g. books, other communities, video courses etc.?
Thanks!
