For example if you remove all the 0EV opens from an RFI range, let's say LJ, the EV of opening AA will decrease because you have so much less mediocre hands to disguise your AA that the solver will react by defending much less against your range.
To add to that, after you removed all 0EV hands from your range, if you add only one of these mediocre hand let's say K7s, the EV of this hand is going to be superior to 0. Because this modified range has so much more equity than GTO by removing all mediocre hands that it will have more fold equity preflop and postflop allowing K7s to be more profitable.
So GTO is about including the maximum amounts of hands that add EV to a range.
Finally, there is some marginal need for board coverage. Opening at some low frequencies EV 0 low pairs like 22-44 in LJ allows your range to not lose to much EV on board like 632r. If you don't have these hands, when you get to such a board postflop, GTO will be able to punish you and attack your capped range more, resulting in a EV loss.
Thanks Gotural, yes that makes sense.
I only play micros, the pool is quite large, so I don't think there will be many who are paying too much attention to what I do. So two thoughts came to mind. I could either
a) fold all those mixed 0 EV hands to get more hands in and save time, or
b) if I think the pool folds too much to 3bets or whatever, I could just raise those 0 EV hands and be more aggressive
Understand though, that against a good player or GTO, this might get attacked and I would lose doing it.
