i try to approach poker from the from the most way profitable. I do this by finding games where people play worse than me. Furthermore, i seek out the spots where i am a decent favorite rather than closer, greyer areas.

this is somewhat broad but please answer in any way you feel, short or long.

should we tend to avoid the marginal spots sparing hero variance, seeking only the low hanging fruit or should we aggressively put ourselves on the margins, hammering small edges and taking hold of variance and using it as a weapon?

This is of course in addition to already, presumed solid play.

thanks for any input

Depends on your bankroll and mental game primarily.

U can treat ur bankroll roll as low key ICM, and avoid marginal spots to reduce your ROR but u are reducing EV. But If your bankroll is deep enough u should never decline a +EV spot.

Likewise, when u hit negative variance it can impact your ability to continue playing which can reduce your expected monthly earnings. If u have a strong mental game tho and it doesn’t impact your ability to perform than this is less of a concern.

Don't play to reduce variance, move down stakes.
That is if you want to become a good player

Avoiding variance is the worst thing you can do but a very common biased way off thinking people fall into. As said above, just don't play at a level where you're uncomfortable to lose.

You can't win what you don't put in the middle
