top heavy as in the money is only in 1st and 2nd.
It should be spread out to top 4 as proposed .

+1000 cosigned
I'm willing for there to be less payout spots if it means never winning LESS than the initial buyin. That's just ridiculous.
Also, many of the mid buyin freezeout MTTs ($5-$20) start at 2000 chips, bump it to 3000 and it would be a decent bandaid for the blind structure issues until it's eventually revamped (which it needs to be... totally knocked down and redesigned).

Cosigned.

The current payout structure should be fixed.

+1 to op. I'm considering not playing mtts on rpm unless the payout structure is changed.
07-28-2011 , 01:28 PM
Co-signed. A fllatter payout structure like those suggested by OP or something along the lines of Poker Stars structures would be a big improvement. In fact, feel free to steal as much from Poker Stars as possible.

Also change the super turbos to 65/35 payouts too
07-30-2011 , 05:25 PM
+1 to some changes. especially the rebuy/addon tournaments

I thought I'd give a visual aid for those who are visual learners. Now I already said above payouts should be spread out more between 1st-4th.

$2 rebuy 101 players. Pays out 1-20th? This ought to be 1-12th, maybe 15th if they want to give more hope to newbies. Notice the drop from 2nd the 3rd. 2nd pays twice as much as 3rd?(that is quite common) 10th paid $9.94 and 11-20th paid $5.68.

Co-signing,

I agree with almost everything said ITT.

Have we seen any sort of progress here, or has this thread just done nothing?

There has been no change yet, but that doesn't mean that there's no 'progress' per se. I've also cosigned on this, and I know a few other poker room managers across Merge have as well.

I agree as well. Haven't posted on 2p2 since I joined, but this was one of the reasons I came on. Glad to see somebody else already posted about it.

Thanks to everybody forwarding this along.

I co-sign and thanks Seth for updating us on your thinking as well. Oh yeah... popcorn graphic?
08-17-2011 , 01:20 AM
co-sign on the op payouts structure, needs to be changed.
08-18-2011 , 07:43 PM
I co-sign too. As a cash player, the payouts are so bad they don't provide me any incentive to play tourneys... if I play a tourney instead of grinding I'm obviously trying to make a score, not mincash or double my money. And +1 to the structure being too top heavy.
08-19-2011 , 02:36 PM
I was in one the other night, top 20 places paid. Places 10-20 were all paid the same amount each. Seth, how long do you forsee this getting changed?

I don't really have a problem with that.
I'd rather see some levels added and rake decrease.

Decreasing rake and adding 75/150 would go a long way IMO.
I still prefer the old FTP structure over any other(Stars,Cake,Merge, etc), but doubt merge would switch to it and 75/150 would help a great deal.

Payout Bumps make no sense to me sometimes. Ive seen the bumb from 3rd to 2nd be bigger than the bump from 2nd to 1st.
Seems rather than adjusting to the number of players they just set payouts at a certain number.
99 players 10 get paid
101 players 20 get paid
Should be prorated more without huge gaps.
Stop stacking the top 1-3 payouts
08-24-2011 , 05:21 AM
Yep, they need a change.

Merge MTT structure needs to be changed. Im not a fan of 10 minute levels....seems like it forces you to play more aggro. Tournaments should have many levels that last 15+ minutes.

I think they're fine, we don't need 5 dollar mtts lasting 8 hours plus when the fields aren't massive.

What is the process that Merge uses to decide things like this anyways?
Is there some board of directors that has to vote on something like changing the payout structure? And they have to get 51% to pass it?

Very interesting thread, no wonder I have had such bad results on Merge MTT's! I think I'll just go back to good old cash games.

I really doubt anything will happen. Look how old this thread is.

Skimmed through and didn't see it brought up but can we get a double rebuy button for rebuy tournaments as well? It's really frustrating to bust the last hand before the end of the rebuy period and not be able to double buy in.

I play a lot of tourneys on Merge. I didn't like it at first but learned to adjust my play and really have liked the fact you do not have to play 4-4 1/2 hours to get itm.

I was hoping they would have changed the payout structure by now though.
