I suppose the others are OK but if Fischer played poker the entire table would go on tilt. the force of his personality would overrun the table. He would be the tiltee not the tilter.

Fischer had Spassky beat before the first move/game as the entire Russian federation didn't know what to do and poor Boris had to go on his own which for the russian at that time was not a good thing.

Petrosian would be a nit. You'd know what he was doing but to no avail for he would grind you out with dull but forceful moves.

Huh?

Fischer lost the first two games and nearly left Iceland instead of completing the match.

Paul Morphy would defeat Moss and Brunson for early WSOP titles, but then get so crazy that he'd start crying over petty disputes ala Andy Black and require hospitalization.

You're right. He lost the first game and forfeited the second game while becoming more belligerent.I'm not a big fan of his but he was what he was. Wiki speaks to it.

Yeah but the point is, Spassky has a huge 2-0 lead and he still can't finish Fischer off.

Fischer won the psychological battle/s and that's a main part of why he won the match. A number of Spassky's blunders were mainly psychological in nature.

Actually now that I've thought about it - I think Fischer would have been great at poker if he had got into it fully. However I don't know if he'd be able to stomach getting sucked out by a fish...

Probably the same thing for countless chess players turned poker players, myself included. You get used to crushing worse players when all the sudden you can drop multiple buyins to some 75/5/2 on a heater who's poker ability is still at the level of 75 on a 795TT board is the nuts. Putting hundreds/thousands of hours into a game where you can still lose to somebody who plays no better than somebody who learned the rules a half hour ago is so tilting when you come from chess where having a practically 100% edge over people who have been playing/studying the game for years is not uncommon.
