We have a new biggest blunder of the tournament in Hari - Vocaturo.

Nice to every now and then see grandmasters make blunders that you would feel really upset about if you made them in a bullet game yourself.

If the knight gets to d3 does it become the Kasparov Octupus knight of the world championship?

No idea what the merits are above just playing Na3 but I liked how the Knight stayed on h5 the rest of the game. Nice game.
Nf3-g1-h3-f4-h5 are 4 moves to put the knight on the rim

on a more current note, i can do nothing but admire Aronian's play. Also nice to see Chucky finally making his peace with Wijk aan Zee. I remember when he played last time and tried to draw all the games in less than 20 moves.

This tournament never fails to deliver.

Yeah quite a brainfart with Rec8. Aronian has more time on the clock than he started with

clocks on Aronian-Giri were wrong throughout unless they started like 40 minutes later than everyone else. I noticed that before.

Really nice game by Aronian. It will probably appear in various future books as an example for a positional exchange sacrifice.

in the C-group, the tailender is just beating up the joint leader. No variance in chess?

Will Levon get a ELO bump from this performance?

most definitely, he's +5 against 2700+ opposition which equals at least a 2900 performance.

They already updated it, he's 2 wins away from Carlsen now....

Aronian's sac is hard to understand. Especially in the equal comp line 20.Nc5 Na4 21.Nxa4 Bxa4. How does black come up with 0.75 points? F3 is weak but really hard to take advantage of because white's rooks come active after b3.

Would anyone be so kind as to post a chessvideos.tv game upload link for the Aronian game? I'm at work and can't access the Wijk aan Zee website and y'all are making me foam at the mouth to see it.

Topalov looks like he doesn't care anymore.

Vlad's not here to fire Topalov up

I'm looking forward to some Wijk aan Zee talk again. This place was a ghost town yesterday

Both Aronian and Carlsen down a fairly clean pawn as white.

Fireworks at Ernst - Harikrishna.

I think Aronian gonna have to fight really hard for a draw. Looks like he's losing his B pawn? His position seems worse then the -.8 houdini gives it. Carlsen in some trouble aswell.

Another black > white day?

And Carlsen looks like he's going for a desperation kingside attack.

This 21. Bh4 move by Carlsen is awesome. He is sacrificing a whole rook.

And although the engine does not seem convinced, this is just great stuff. I wouldn't want to face that. Gutsy.

Yeah I would def. take white in a bullet game here and also if Magnus would do this to me I would be pretty scared

Game became spectaculor all of the sudden, houdini lines are giving me all kind of headaches.

So, should we blame Topalov for missing (probably not even considering) 23...,Re6?

It would be an amazing achievement for Topalov to hold on now, from what I can see. I could be wrong, but that just looks brutal to try to play.

Whaaat? IMO white should be very happy if he gives perpetual somewhere in here. It's rook and three pieces (with a pair of bishops) for a queen, let's not forget that I honestly can't find a single threat by white, but he should have perpetual somewhere with that Q+N.

As soon as black played Bg6, I kind of regretted that statement. I wasn't so much analyzing as just eyeballing and deciding that it looked scary to have your king exposed like that.
