Are there going to be any youtube videos of GM postgame press conferences for this years Tournament..
I loved watching the 2008 videos and am wondering if anyone is doing it for this year.

Yeah, there are tons -- you can find them on Tata's facebook page.

Do they have the post mortem with the large boards and the GM running through the key positions with thoughts?

Yes, 31...Qf6 was better so that Black could play for some advantage; it seems that 32. Nb3 is the only answer because of the loose Ba6 and Nd2 should the Ra1 move away from the a-file. In the game, Nakamura had plenty of time on move 40 and should have played 40...Qb6 leading to a perpetual rather than 40...Qa4 with the idea of trading rooks with ...Rd6 (?), ...Rd1+ which gave White a very nice position to play on after winning the pawn on e7. Aronian found the nice 50. Bg4! to finish the game. Interesting that Lev didn't think he had anything until after 32...Qxe6 even though it's likely to be objectively equal.

I have only a spectators interest in chess.....periodically getting involved passionately for a year then dropping off for a couple.

I really enjoy watching Aronian play.

Why is Boris playing this and Vishy isnt?

Not sure. Boris played some event just before this I think, maybe he's getting some rest now.
Aronian is beating the crap out of Caruana while Carlsen is in some trouble, lead about to be overtaken. Naka-Topa looks really interesting, bad for Naka tho if computer evals are to be believed

yeah, guys seem to be out for blood there.

Do they start with 1:30 on the clock? If so, Aronian has more time than at the start of the game now while Caruana is down to 10 minutes

€ looked it up, they start with 1:40, must still be a pretty frustrating experience for Fabiano...

Yeah, a complete strategic failure for Black. White hasn't even done anything really remarkable, I wish I could beat 2700+ dudes like that :|

Haast-Grover from group C is pretty funny. I don't think i have ever seen a maneuvre like this before.

But it's a Winawer french so it could be totally standard for all i know.

It's going to get him crushed and the computer says it was objectively terrible, but I really love the spirit of that exchange sac in by Caruana against Aronian.

How dangerous do those 2 central passers pose to levon?

I guess in the end he can sacrifice his bishop or rook if it becomes critical

and Levon has a decent plan of munching the c pawn and should be able to keep one passer of his own alive.

agree?

Not dangerous enough. He should be absolutely fine here.

Carlsen blundered with 18. Ne4? against Karjakin; after 18. Nb5 Qd5 19. Rc2 Nxd3 20. Qxd3 Ba6 21. a4 Bxb5 22. ab5 Rac8 equalizes ( but somehow I don't think Karjakin would opt for equality! ).

Aronian is now expected to win Wijk Aan Zee 2012.

Will Levon see 38.Qb7?

Is that too much a computer move?

3 players more or less mated after <30 moves in the B-group. My award goes to Sipke Ernst with his queen maneuvre to a5 while his K-side was under heavy fire.

Apparently too computer-y. I thought QB6 at least looked pretty intuitive.

I guess it was too weird to leave the bishop hanging with two central passers.

It's more up in the air at this point than I would have guessed.

Aronian has to find the very, very unintuitive 40. Qg3 here, throwing away a bishop for no immediate or obvious compensation. Otherwise, Houdini considers it within 0.33 and black can find some interesting counterplay that I can see.

amusing to see these multiple pawn swings in evaluation

Ooh, he found it. That is an amount of sickness appropriate to what he's about to do in the tournament, which is take a full point lead more than likely.

true but a position with a +2 evaluation might be way more easily won than another with +6. The guys on ICC explained that very well some days ago.

Not saying this is the case in the Aronian game.

btw, the thought process to find these tactics is: "Where would i want my queen to be? e5. How does it get there?"

suddenly it all looks easy.

Reminds me of that funky endgame I posted in the Interesting Positions Thread last week.

I took it to the local club, and everyone was duly awed by the sickness of it, and someone asked "How would you ever find that move?"

I said I guessed the answer was, try to imagine the absolute dream square for your piece. If you could just pick it up and put it on any square on the board, where would you want it? Then try to get it there.
