i don't believe the on-site engine anymore, the line it gives after 26....Re8 isn't even legal.

I didn't see any pressure by Black. 6...c5 gave White a large development advantage, 10.Nxf4 covered d3 well enough... White controlled the center and his pieces just kept finding their way to perfect squares while taking away Black's ability to do the same. Black was always one tempo short of a decent position. If anything, I'm surprised White's advantage wasn't larger.

Lol Rcf8, with those kind of trics I can beat Carlsen aswell.

I think Qd4 was an attempt to win but it didn't quite work out

Thx, didn't see that yet. Nice move indeed.

Lucky escape by Carlsen against Giri into the better side of a draw, and really did play until there were bare kings!

Nice game by Chucky playing the Pirc and Gelfand wins in a Najdorf against Karjakin who never seems to draw a game; another 2700+ GM castles long in a tournament ( Navaro loses this time to Nakamura ). Tough for Aronian as Black to play for a win against Van Wely who is content with a draw.

Expect Caruana to torture Kamsky for awhile in the ending up a pawn.

yeah well bad luck for Aronian but if you want to win you simply cannot play into this line.

Lol what's with the playing on untill bare kings and not taking last pawn directly. Do they hate eachother or were they just goofing around?

Five straight draws to start isn't a bad result for the lowest-rated player there.

Some really interesting games today. It seemed more like the losers just lost their way than the winners being super-brilliant or anything.

I would say it's pretty impressive what v Wely is doing.

He had a sabatical last year. Also he had black 3 times (Topalov, Kamsky, Ivanchuck) so far and already played against the future champ (yes Aronian).

Also people really want to win against him. Look at Ivanchucks reaction (20 seconds in)

I've never read about any bad blood between them.

They were prolly just trololololing for the audience.

Go Ivanchuk!

In b4 Carlsen somehow wins this endgame against Navara.

If he does, I will start believing in Kortchnoi's theory that he hypnotizes opponents.

looks like he hypnotized himself there, probably still a draw though.

Is Magnus really playing within like three seconds of the other guy, or is that just some artifact of the live update software playing tricks on me?

If he is playing so fast, then is there a reason for it, or is it just to psyche out his opponent?

Van Wely finds himself back within the margin of drawing chances after looking pretty dead.

And Gelfand just oopsied one to Nakamura, who is now back to a plus score.

What the hell how did Gelfand miss that?

OK Navara has lost the last 3 games but Magnus could show some respect and play Rxh6 and draw instead of going into a ridicoulous bind with Kh8.

ah, draw now.

It is a drawn endgame so he is trying to add some pressure.

Some people talk about rating inflation but it is really interesting watching the players at the top of the pack, Carlsen and Aronian in particular. Their skill edge just seems so massively ahead of their peers. Carlsen treating Navara, no slouch at 2700, like a push over in a drawn ending. Or Aronian happily playing into Gashimov's preparation in the Benoni, leaving prep well before Gashimov (based on move times) and cleaning up while playing at blitz speed for most of the game.

I'm very intrigued by this endgame in Giri-Kamsky. This could last a long, long time.

Wow, when I left the house I didn't expect Kingloek to have any chance of a score.
Dario Minieri blowup?

harikrishna - Timman game really nice, 2 bad Timman blunderd at the end but Harikrishna played a hell of a game. Next year A tournament!

Giri can exchange rooks now? I'll go for the giri gonna ship again \

Edit: Gamsky blowup at the moment I was posting. Agree that 10 moves ago it was really difficult and interesting but you got to keep the rooks obv. Go giri!

Do they get a penalty for just drawing? Kingloek & Minieri also played till lone kings.

Carlsen about playing on for that long in a clear draw position : 'well, don't have much else to do anyway, might aswell just sit there for a while.'
