One of the most entertaining chess events to follow, the Gibraltar tournament, is underway. Live commentary at the official site: http://www.gibraltarchesscongress.com/
Also for BJJ: Wei Yi alert

Any idea where I can see Wei Yi's results? I've been watching the live commentary and also following along on ChessBomb all day, but they haven't talked about his game and ChessBomb only has the top 15 boards (all wins for the higher rated player) and I can't find anywhere that shows live results besides ChessBomb.

The official site just links to http://chess-results.com/tnr120746.aspx?lan=1 and that does show some games, but is clearly lagging behind a bit. Do I just have to wait for chess-results.com to update before I can indulge my Wei Yi fanboyism (and also do the obligatory "upset check" to find the biggest round 1 upsets, that are always so fun to see in big open events like this)?

Round 1 full-point upsets:
Jes West Knudsen (1874) defeated Mark D Tseitlin (2389) - as black!
IM Sarai Carolina Sanchez Castillo (2219) defeated GM Kiril Georgiev (2653)
Pascal Verneuil (2065) defeated IM Aman Hambleton (2481)
Ravdanlkhumbuu Amgalanbaatar (2137) defeated GM Felipe De Cresce El Debs (2520) - as black!
Sebastian Mihajlov (2185) defeated GM Krikor Sevag Mekhitarian (2566)

There were also thirteen half-point upsets, where the draw was held by a player rated 388 or more points below their opponent.

Will any of the five unlikely round one victors (who each gained about 13.8 elo from their first game) manage another point tomorrow? Or even a half point? Stay tuned!

Just came here to post this

Sad Harikrishna didn't accept, but these lines are still fun as well.

Ivanchuk is crushing it!

Speaking of crush, I think Irina has been really good on commentary.

A half point lead with two rounds to play (and a full point+ lead over all but two players) If Ivanchuk can beat Kamsky tomorrow he'll nearly clinch the tournament. Of course he's got black and Kamsky's no patzer, so it's not like that's a foregone conclusion. Should they draw, or should Kamsky win, then things get interesting. One of them would have 7.5, and then there could be quite a few players at 7 going into the last round (I'm sure there will be a few decisive results in that big crowd of 18 people currently tied for fourth at 6).

I watched the Vachier masterclass yesterday. While Vachier isn't the greatest entertainer, and a little clumsy in front of the audience, the game and his comments were fantastic. My favourites were the Nbd7 resource he mentioned, which seemed absurd but made a lot of sense when he showed the lines, and how he banned taking an en-pris piece out of his thought process to the point that it didn't even cross his mind when it was the easiest win.

Also funny was Conquest's remark after move 15 or so: "This position looks like an amateur game from the bottom boards of the C-tournament."
