No, Loki is just having someone take an existing/published Quality Chess Grandmaster Series repertoire and inputting it into pgn for him. The only thing being sold to him in the transaction is data entry labor.

Inputting data entry is actually a huge trek. I don't understand why Quality Chess don't just release the PGN file and save everyone alot of time.

Day 31

Played 1hr at the park. Got into a couple of interesting positions, managed to miss mate, despite playing the exchange sacrifice that would lead to mate, I somehow forgotten about that.

Started doing chesstempo tactics again. The blitz (timed set) is better than the standard set imo, because it actually tests for pattern recognition, whereas the standard set you can kind of brute force it and try every variation in your head. I'm pretty rusty atm.

Or of curiosity what are your ratings on ct and highs?

Um last time i did it, might have got to 2k or near it on standard and stopped (I assume by highs you mean peak).

I literally just started yday done a few problems, but I've never done blitz b4 so I will see how it goes. I'll update daily.

I do, you can check my log. About 2100 standard but I usually take my time. 1840 blitz at the moment. I got up to 1870 but I do it way too often when I'm watching my daughter or slightly distracted, which is kind of awful for blitz problems. My rating just stays to plummet straight down lol.

I consider myself alot better than when I started but I need to use the skills more in longer games. Also, I'm just not that quick at them, I really ought to double or triple check things since otherwise i often miss a further tactic or defensive resource.

Yea nice work on the standard. I too get distracted at blitz problems. Standard is less punishing in a way you can take as long as you want to solve a puzzle. But I'm impatient and usually get too hasty to find out a few minutes in. Whereas you get punished for spending time in blitz. Speaking of which I will be doing some soon

Didn't do that much, but did spend an hour on the chesstempo timed (blitz) problems, Did over 50+ problems, peaked at 1900+ yesterday but dropped to 1850 by the end of today's session. I think I got pretty tired at the end. Also wasted time trying to find creative/beautiful solution but at the end of the day, chesstempo problems are designed to be similar to real games and the problem is usually pretty straight forward (based on a theme or motif).

Pretty busy tomorrow, have to do alot of stuff. But after that, I will have a ten day lockdown to focus on chess and really get through the repertoires.

Day 33

Spent some time on ct problem after a long day outside. Dropped to 1840 blitz tactics, but alot of mistakes were avoidable (e.g. missing some simple en prise when trying to look for intermediate moves or complicated ideas), but way too tired now.

Will renew subscription to ct, so I can look at problems I did again.

Had to be fix my sleep cycle, so couldn't do the first day of lockdown. Just practiced on chess.com. Got bullet back to 2000 despite internet problems.

Also played some better games now. Had some f-pawn pushes that always ended up giving me space that can lead to kingside attack or shutting down counterplay the flank.

After spending alot of time just on a few of the chapters, I quickly realise trying to input every side variation and notes would be near impossible in the time constraint. There's 80 chapters for these 3 volume alone! Even if I spent 5 hours a day, and take around 2-3 hours inputting and memorising every chapter it would take 50 days just to do that, which will leave me no time to work on other areas. Furthermore, the English Opening does not even have alot of forcing lines, so trying to remember everything seems abit pointless.

Similarly, my spanish associate is having problem completing the semi slav repertoire ($200 AUD is very cheap price), the amount of work is astronomical, and I blame Quality Chess Publishing for not having PGN forms available for the public.

I've since made an economical choice to just input the variations that are in bold (and side variations I found important), they are the ones the author intend us to memorise, the rest are just notes and illustration. Hopefully this would cut down time spent on the opening. As long as the key ideas are understood, problems over the board should be solvable in practice (hopefully).

Completed Chapter 11-15 (3. ... e6 lines in the Symmetrical English).

Despite having to head out tmmr, I expect to finish chapter 5-7 (5. ... e6 and main lines in the Symmetrical English Closed System). Which might take around 6 hours.

Goal is to complete all three of Marin's Volume by day 42.

Realising I have less than 60 days left, I was in a panic. And yday left much to be desired.

I spent most of the day working on the repertoire and I only have 6 more chapter to go before volume 3 is completed.

Some lines such as 1. c4 c5 2. 2. g3 Nc6 3. Bg2 g6 4. Nc3 Bg7 5. Nf3 Nh6!? I mostly disregarded Marin's analysis and just used D'Costa recommendation for these off beat variations in his ABC of the English Opening series. Mainly because I don't expect to meet these lines OTB so I just wanted some simple solutions (I might have mentioned this in a past post).

Facebook messaged Marin to see if he has the PGN to his book and if he would sell them to me, but my chances remain speculative.

Played blitz and bullet and was unusually successful in everything from chess.com to lichess.org and made alot of progress back to my peak.

Raged on chess.com and smashed my mouse until it broke.


Almost finished the Vol. 3 will do a summary when I'm done. I still got chapter 8/9/10 which are the open lines 1. c4 c5 2. g3 Nf6 3. Bg2 Nc6 4. Nf3 d5 5. cxd5 Nxd5 6. Nc3 which basically are the open lines (reverse dragon) and reverse maroczy lines (with or without g6). Can't believe its taking that fkn long.

At least the semi slav repertoire that I paid for got sent by email (although horribly formatted). My hope is that in the next week, in addition to getting this done, is to also get the 1. c4 e5 lines inputted, Marin's Vol 2. and the Caro Khan by day 50 which is probably a long shot given I have work tmmr and alot happening in the next few days.

See, if you had only outsourced your blitz and bullet you would still have that mouse...
