Besides the move I made, the other two moves I would consider are 5. Qe2 and 5. Nf3. But I'd rather play Bb5 before those moves, so my light squared bishop doesn't get trapped (5.Nf3 might require Qe2 soon after).

With the move I made, ...Bc5 looks tough as the d4 square is locked up by black and f2 square can become a weakness for white. At first look against ..Bc5 I play Qe2, against ...Qd4 I play Qe2, against ...dxe4 I play Nf3

Also I'm wondering if taking the knight on c6 early might be good as the c pawn will be isolated.

I play 5.Bb5
game so far: 1.e4 e5 2.f4 d5 3.exd5 c6

Well, I have no more book knowledge of this opening, so it's just me from here on in. Im looking later for some Qd5 action because my light squared bishop has an open shot at a Nh3 protecting. I'm expecting Nc3 from him though, I'll probably trade pawns or pin it or something idunno

5.... Bc5

sorry for the late response PyramindScheme

Spoiler:
After Nf3, I don't like facing Bg4. I like Qe2, but Bxc6 is good before Qe2, as Qe2 allows ...Bd7 or ...Ne7. I find Bxc6 takes away some of the benefits of those moves.

I play 6.Bxc6+

Um ... diagram doesn't *quite* match the game score ...

Spoiler:
I suspect it might after black's move however

ok um, thanks for making my move for me. Thats what I'll do.

omg huge spoiler on why i did that!!!

Spoiler:
I didn't want to go down a piece. The rest of this is so grasshopper thinks I am saying all this complicated **** when in fact I'm not saying anything. I really want to bang this waitress who works at a local all night diner. Brunette, thin, a few yrs older than me, with a cute nerdy four eyes girls look. Unfortunately she always talks about this guy who i assume is her boyfriend who is in court for committing some kind of crime and it looks like he is gonna lose but he is "totally innocent" lol seriously. He is 'totally innocent' So I mean do you think I have any shot when this guy is incarcerated, I mean I will have a slight advantage not being in prison and all but obviously he isn't going to break up or cheat on her anytime soon. Clearly she's pretty loyal, I think I almost need him to get away with whatever crime he committed for me to have a chance? Thoughts?

Definitely pursue her.

However:

- Never tell her your full real name.
- Never bring her to your place.
- Be prepared to change your cell phone number after you've had your "fun" with her.
- Be prepared to never go to that diner again.

Ha you feel for my trap. The diagram was after 6. ...bxc6 black resigns

final game: 1.e4 e5 2.f4 d5 3.exd5 c6 4.dxc6 Nxc6 5.Bb5 Bc5 6.Bxc6+ bxc6 black resigns 1-0

good game. Not many people last 6 moves against me.

Qe2 as planned. He could respond with ...Bxg1. Initially I liked 8.Qxe5+. However 8...Ne7 9.Rxg1 0-0 seems dangerous. So I think I'd just play 8.Rxg1 right away.

Against ...Qb6 I'd play Nf3. The only thing that looks tough is 7...Ne7 which at first look I'd play 8.fxe5

I play 7.Qe2
game so far: 1.e4 e5 2.f4 d5 3.exd5 c6 4.dxc6 Nxc6 5.Bb5 Bc5 6.Bxc6+ bxc6 7.Qe2

7....Be6

Spoiler:
Black may appear to be in trouble but I still have full confidence. After 8. Qxe5, black plays Bd4 forcing the white queen to either h5 or e2. e2 probably being best. Then black plays 9... Qb6 double threatening the win of the undeveloped knight on g1 and Bxb2 which would net a rook. Of course while all of this is going on White will be able to play f5, attacking the pinned bishop but that will allow me time to develop my kings knight, let him have that bishop and castle. I'll be down a ton of material but I'll be threatening to win a piece back immediately and open the f file with my rook bearing down on his king and way ahead in development.

Of course, if he plays 7. fxe5 then Ill look to take advantage of the potential Qh4+ Queen to e4 King and rook fork check trap by attempting to push his queen out of the efile by developing the knight again to the a3rim and attacking with my bishop.

Also, this will probably all fail, but I'm a psychotic lunatic.

I think PS is a little off with his tactics, although the idea is there.
After 8.Qxe5 he wants to play 8...Bd4 9.Qe2 (Qe4 also an option) 9...Qb6 'with a double attack' ... but I think white can just play 10.c3 & after 10...Bxg1 11.d4! & the bishop can be recaptured ... and there is still the pin on the e-file & the threat of f5 ... could be dangerous!

Haha, this is not really possible but I like the spirit.
I think Black has good compensation due to the development lead, something like 8.Qxe5 Bd4 9.Qe2 Nf6 or 9.Qe4 Nf6 (maybe unnecessary but I like sacrificing pawns when they are not mine) 10.Qxc6+ Kf8 and I'd be happy

I don't like 8.Qxe5 Bxg1 9. Rxg1 (9.Qxg7 Qd4) Qh4+ 10.g3 Qxh2

With 8.Nf3 black can respond ...exf4 and now I can play 9.Qe5 and it looks fine for me. 8. Nf3 Bg4 9.Qxe5+ looks bad for black.

8.Nf3 Qb6 9.Nxe5 I'm up two pawns and as long as I defend I'll be fine

8.Nf3 Ne7 9.Nxe5 At first look ...Qb6 is met with Nc3

I play 8.Nf3

Sorry was at the US Amateur East and had some stuff to take care of when I got home. Should be moving regularly now.

Spoiler:
I'm sure fear of all the lines I discussed in the last post caused Grasshopper to not take the pawn. Now of course he would be able to safely capture so I must capture to avoid being down 2 pawns and the new plan will be to try and chase the knight with the g-pawn to open the checking diagonal for the Queen on Whites King which will not be castling anytime soon.

Just realized the g pawn storm is a huge problem if white plays Nc3 next because the following Ne4 is murder. I wonder if smillingbill may have said that? haha. I'll re-evaluate if he plays that. Hoping for d3. Don't really want to see d4 either.

i'd simply play Nf6 and then castle, like bill said in another thread "sac the pawn (on f4) and continue as if nothing happened". Black does have the bishops, open lines and an unsafe enemy King to work with, why compromise his own position with risky pawn advances?

Sorry this took so long. I'm out of town and a bit busier.

Spoiler:

9.Qe5 is what I saw before I played Nf3. The only black response I see is ...Bf8. One line is 10. Qxf4 Bd6 11.Qa4 Qb6 12.d4 with 0-0 soon after

I play 9.Qe5

9... Qe7

Spoiler:
I thought about 9...... Be7 10.Qxg7 Bf6 and the Queen is trapped. However that relies on a blunder and Qe7 both protecting the forked bishop and setting up a discovery on a King. I'll go down a pawn again but still a definite attacking/developing advantage which I hope is compensation.

Thoughts: 9..... Qe7 10. Qxg7 0-0-0 11.Qxh8 Nf6 and 12.Qg7 loses immediately and QxR+ would leave white up 2 in material but black with a devistating attack. Better for White is 10. Qxf4. In this case my discovery attack wont be that powerful and after Kd1 white we'll be threatening a pin. with Re1. If he plays Qxf4 we'll re-evaluated on the turn
