Did y'all see Nakamura's win over Hammer in the Noteboom? Great game, really sharp.

Carlsen's Kd2 vs Wang Hao might be the worst move I've ever seen him make in a classical chess game. Yes, tactical blunders and stuff happens, but this... You can't call this a blunder, I don't even know how to call it

I was in this chess camp this weekend and we were all watching this game live. About 10 people, all rated 2100-2300. After Kd2 the entire room just went nuts, we thought it is an error in the transmission or something.

Seriously, if you ask any 1600+ player what move he would consider in that position h5 or Kd4 would be an answer 100% of the time. I don't understand how could Carlsen play it..

Wow, I hadn't seen that move until just now, I went and checked out the game. You're right, that's really hard to understand. Kd4 seems soooo natural there. He must have had some calculation oversight or something. Definitely hard to understand what's going on there.

confirmed, patzer here would have played Kd4.

his other blunder though, 64. Kg2 seemed natural to me and wasnt obvious why it was a blunder at first. after playing through the moves it becomes apparent Kf2 stops the pawn but Kg2 cant. but kd2 for someone so good at endgames is weird. was there a press conference on it where he talked about the mistake?

Here is Wang Hao's analysis at the press conference. He does address why Carlsen avoided Kd4.
