I am new to chess online. I'm not amazing at chess but am alright at the game. I would like to get better, so I think practicing is a good idea. Since I spend alot of time online, whats the best site to play at? Preferably a site with a wide range of beginning players, and a decent selection of progressivly tougher and tougher games and opponents to choose from.

www.freechess.org for FICS the free chess server.

www.chessclub.com for ICC the best chess server (its pay).

You can get a free week trial account on ICC and there's lots of chess videos for beginners on there too. So check them out.

The free week is actually a free 2 weeks, and you can get it every 3 or 4 months.

Brag: I played on ICC when it was ICS, before it was pay. 1992-1995. What Commerce is to live poker, ICC is to internet chess.
