Magnus might be the better player than Maurice, but Maurice has a much greater chess understanding than Magnus.

yes maurice ashleys chess understanding is unrivaled, which is why he made it to mediocore grandmaster. magnus doesnt understand chess, he became world champion by luck

Do you actually believe that or are you just saying it as a hot take?

Btw, I can believe Magnus does not have the most theoretical knowledge of everyone but Maurice seems like an extremely odd choice for someone who has more.

I also can't imagine Maurice would even take the statement seriously, he'd just laugh. Unless you mean something different than what theoretical chess knowledge entails.

have you seen his noggin? he has a lot of chess knowledge in there, whereas Magnus has a smaller noggin and thus less chess knowledge

I think that Magnus would have a very tough time beating Maurice using an engine. Let's not forget, that this is what Maurice is doing, he is looking at engine evaluations. Even more important, Magnus couldn't take on Maurice in a real fight. Maurice shouldn't be underestimated. Elo 2440 can be very deceptive.
