Didn't she just come out of retirement recently?

Just in time before Hou Yifan overtakes her.

Mine too. (I was just too polite to express it.) It was an outstanding career nevertheless.

Yeah, the Yifan thing nails it.

She's been... barely active for several years, so it's not like a sudden thing. I guess it's possible, but I should hope she didn't retire due to Hou Yifan. Hou Yifan is nothing compared to Judit who was a world-class player. Maybe one day Hou will be but.. please.

Hungary won silver medal in her final event which is a nice way to go out.

The Yifan thing is awfully coincidental, but in fairness Judit has never cared about women's chess - why would she suddenly care about being the best active woman in the world?

RoundTower, some things you don't care about until you're about to lose them.

Yeah it's easy enough to not care when you're 150 points higher than #2 for 20 years (or whatever).

At the end of her guest commentary on round 2 of the Olympiad, when asked about the chance of a match vs Yifan, Judit said it might happen if there are nice location and conditions offered (Btw, in that video, she explained a cute sharp game of herself in that round.) I think at that point she already knew she would retire; perhaps that match just wouldn't count as 'competitive chess'.
