This game I hang a piece in the opening. I was thinking of resigning but you know what, it's 5 minute blitz, screw that!

Then later this position I thought was funny, pawns are serious business

haha, that is a pretty funny position. Well done! I wanna share one of mines too. A little introduction - game was played in last years Open Scottish Championship. I was black and desperately needed a win to fight for 1st. After a very complicated game I got the best of my opponent and had an edge in an endgame, though practically it was probably a draw. However, I really needed a win so I refused to his draw offers, and of course messed up my position horribly while trying to play for a win. Here is the position:

I was black and it is white to move. Although I seem to be completely lost, I think black still has some measly drawing chances, cause my last move, Nd4, creates multiple threats. However, my opponent responded with a terrible blunder, Nd8??. I believe a next move for black will be a pretty easy one to find

edit: Board is from the white's perspective, which means his King is on h1, pawn is on e6 etc.

I guess it's OK to post this here given the LC in the OP.

Have never played chess at even a remotely decent level, but I did play back in high school. I was always just good enough to place in the lowest of the two classes, and then I would be moved up for the next tournament and get slaughtered. This game is from one of those time I was playing the A-class. I had lived up to my usual standard and was 0/8 going into the final round. I think my opponent was feeling fairly confident or it would never have worked, but I felt like I just had to go for it. Fortunately he didn't even hesitate before scooping up my queen.

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 3. Bc4 d6 4. Nc3 Bg4

5. Nxe5?! Bxd1?? 6. Bxf7+ Ke7 7. Nd5++

This a well known "Legal mate" theme. However, you didn't perform it perfectly. After your Nxe5, black is simply winning if he takes back on e5 with a knight. The first move of the combination should be 5. h3, and the combination only works if the bishop retreats to h5.. Then Nxe5 wins a pawn (5. h3 Bh5? 6. Nxe5! Nxe5 [Bxd1 leads to the same mate] 7. Qxh5 Nxc4 8. Qxb5 +), or results in the mate if black takes the queen.

Yeah, you're right, I know. I was a bit hazy on the details since this was over 20 years ago and I haven't really played much chess since.

I think, I might even have played it perfectly now that I think about and it did go 5. h3 Bh5, because I think we replayed it afterwards where I ended being up a pawn after him not taking my queen, but I couldn't figure out any reasonable moves for black that would lead to that, so I thought I might have been mistaken.

the finish to this reminded me of the famous game Ortueta-Sanz.

Black to play:

Spoiler:
Is it Rxg7 Nxg7; f6 Ne6; f5+ and the pawns get there?

Notation is incorrect, but the line you gave is good. It's just "b" instead of "g", "c" instead of "f", "2" instead of "7" and etc.

wow, it just occured to me. After 1.. Rxb2 2. Nxb2 c3 white has 3.Rxb6! which would make it a draw, but then black responds with SICK 3.. c4!! Wow, that was a nice one RoundTower

Yeah, that's a sick line. After that last "quiet" move White is totally screwed.

I basically gave up as i couldn't see a defense against mate on h1 or g2. However:

Spoiler:
29. Re2 Qh1+ 30. Kf2 and now after Qg2+ the white king can escape with Ke1. So annoying to miss something so simple.

Black is better after 29. ... Qh1+ 30. Kf2 Qxh2+ 31. Ke1 Qxg3+ 32. Qxg3 Rxg3 but it's still close.

you have to go one move further to see the full beauty

Spoiler:
1...Rxb2! 2. Nxb2 c3 3. Rxb6 c4!! 4. Rb4!? and now 4...a5!! another "quiet" move to win.

lol RoundTower, for some reason I thought that the position was from a game you played. I kept thinking that I'd seen it somewhere before...now I know that I probably have!

sadly no.

It's possible that the Ortueta-Sanz game was a hoax though, so I might as well claim I played it myself.
