I have the icc app on both my iPad and iPhone and I caN never stay connected on either. Anyone else have similar difficulty

you can try lantern chess for iOS(which i developed). search lantern chess in app store. its an alternative ICC interface. free no adds. Maybe the connection is handled differently otherwise it could be your internet. Also with ICC app i think in settings you can turn off timestamp if this helps. And keep in mind if the phone screen locks you will get disconnected.

I was to the point in my last post/answer on this thread that I felt that I didn't say much interesting about Lantern Chess for iOS(an ICC/chessclub.com interface) It's free no adds as stated and it's alternative paid members to chessclub.com can use.

If someone is having problems with the official ICC app they might want to give it a go but if I may say a few things... It's the only ICC app for iOS that supports crazyhouse(its great fun on iPad playing crazyhouse on ICC), and it has a board console under board(users can go to game menu on board and select whisper or tell opponent etc and get an input box when they want to type a message). It's also great for viewing ICC chat, particularly the iPad version, and watching games(top games list on game menu on board).
