Watup guys, are you as happy as me to see a chess forum here? I was just wondering how strong of a chess community does 2p2 have, so go ahead and post your USCF and FIDE ratings if you have any

Myself: 2241 in FIDE (best was 2298), 2268 in USCF (best was 2370). Been going down for quite a while, but started working on it again recently, so there is always hope

Haven't played competitively for about 20 years. Last rating was somewhere around 1650, so I suck. I would think your rating will be one of the highest, but maybe I'll be surprised by a few GMs, IDK.

In my teens I started putting a lot of energy into chess organizations; I did a lot of tournament directing and was on the BC Chess Federation executive for a while. I think I burned myself out, so rather than stepping back a bit I just disappeared from the scene altogether. Maybe this forum will inspire me to get back into it.

Argh you were 2 points from FM?

GM Angus Dunnington has posted here a handful of times. I don't recall his handle though.

My current (peak) Stats: FIDE 2180 (2277) USCF 2217 (2244)

Yeah, was 2 points away from FM. Was also 1 Performance point shy from an IM norm.. Oh well Your ratings are high too, well done! Do you still play competitively?

I do but only a couple of tournaments a year. I have a part time job where most of the work is on holiday weekends, and that interferes with playing in big tournaments. Also, my local club is no longer very interesting to play in. All the top players have played each other multiple dozens of times.

curtains is an IM, 24xx I think, maybe 1 GM norm if my memory serves.

Don't you need three norms to reach FM? Or is that just IM or GM? If you're over 2300 FIDE, are you automatically an FM?

Dunnington is IM afaik, not GM.

I believe that Swiss GM Gallagher used to post on 2p2 some years ago (don't remember any details). I would be surprised though if he was the strongest chess player on 2p2. There are many good chess players who also play poker.

I am 2000 USCF, which is way better than most people and way worse than most super-serious players.

That is only for IM's and GM's. Whenever you reach 2300, you need to pay a fee to FIDE and you get an FM.

Let's wait for curtains then!

I am currently 2018 blitz on ICC with a best of 2209.

Also, I'm currently 1997 CFC with a best of 2037.

Guess that puts me out of the running, although I'm not surprised one bit!

That is still not bad, that definitely puts you in top 1 percentile of all the people in the world that play chess

Cmon I have over 10k posts, there should be a post minimum to be considered for this prestigious title!

I mean I know of a few GM's who have made a few posts here, so they would be the winners, but ok they maybe posted 5-10 times max.

I have played in rated tournaments but I have never gotten an official rating. This is because I played in this tournament where I think getting 4.5/9 would lead to an FM norm, but I scored 0/9.

I still got a trophy and plaque for something though, I forgot what. I'll have to check when I get home.

I'm 1246 (provisional) USCF, but haven't played a rated event (or played chess basically at all, until the OOT thread piqued my interest) since spring 2003.

I was around 160 BCF, not sure what that makes in FIDE, maybe high 1700s?

The strongest chess player I know who also plays Poker at a reasonable standard is Grischuk, who was cashed in a couple of EPTs at least, and was regularly 2700+ at chess. Doubt he posts on 2+2 though you never know.

Of the top 20 US players probably at least half of them have played significant amounts of poker in the last 5 years. Their results have been pretty mixed and probably most of them have lost money playing, but they have played a lot. (by a lot I mean something like sitting in front of computer for 5 hours in a row for weeks at a time etc.)

Is there data to back this claim? I know I should be googling, I am just curious about whether you are speculating or if this is a fact, not about your actual sources. I am interested in the connection of poker, chess, go etc. from a psychological standpoint. (E.g: How similar or different are the set of cognitive abilities they require to excell in them?)
