I'm really sorry everyone, this game should have been finished long ago, but for whatever reason its got delayed heavily... I promise I will post here on Monday, I've got a lot of work to do before then, but after that my subsequent moves will be a lot quicker and we should be able to finish this at least before the end of the month.

Here's my move as promised, managed to finish work early tonight .

Spoiler:
As you probably all know by now, I always analyse forcing variations (OK fine, I try to) whether it be a check, capture or a threat as that's where most tactics stem from and it limits your opponents options. Here 25.Rxd4 Bxd4 doesn't seem great as my knight is pinned and he has e5 coming, but 25. b4 attacking his bishop forces him to play either Rxd1+ (A) or Rxc4 (B).

A: Rxd1+ 26. Nxd1 Bd4 I have Bb8 ideas or perhaps Bd6 either way it doesn't seem bad.

B: Rxc4 26. Nb5 and when his bishop moves then I can play Nxa7. But looking at it after 26.Nb5, f4 looks rather strong or maybe a delayed f4 might have been his intention; somthing like Be7 27. Na7 and now f4. However then 27.bxc5 fxg3 28.Rd8+ Kf7 29.Nd6+ is possible and its really getting unclear after Ke7 30.Re8+ Kd7 31.Nxc4, but I think it simplifies into a drawn knight ending. Maybe I should throw in 27.Bh4 after f4 so that after 27...g5, he doesn't have fxg3 and gxf/h2+, but after 27...g5 now he has Kg7 instead of Kf7 ans that's if he plays g5... meh, let's look at other moves, don't want to spend ages on b4 if there is (or isn't) another possibility.

I can play 26.h3 to which he probably plays Nf6 and now I can try b4 with a similar sequence, but there's a crucial difference; after Rxc4 Nb5 B any Nxa7 he can play Nd5 and knights in the centre of the board on outposts are strong (and scare me). I definitely think I shouldn't encourage him to reroute his knight, so I guess I'll take my chances with his possible threats on my f2 square and leave his knight on g4 for the time being. I guess I'm forced into playing b4, which is probably not a bad thing.

Cliffs: b4 looks OK (might lead to a drawn knight endgame in a long, semi-forcing variation) and I don't really like/see other moves given that he is now threatening my c4 pawn.

Anyone who said inb4b4 in their spoiler wins the thread.

Suggestion for next time:

Play a 15 minute game (maybe 2 sec increment to avoid time scramble nonsense) on a server, and then each analyze the game in depth and post it in a thread for discussion.

Yeah, for really amusing spoilers we need a game between people like me. <spoil>NO THAT DROPS THE KNIGHT YOU MORON!!!</spoil> followed by <spoil>NO HIS KNIGHT IS HANGING YOU MORON!!!</spoil>

A well played but drawish game just doesn't leave too much for the audience to say

I seem to have no problem 'blundering' even from totally won positions or in correspondence games.

I wouldn't mind this, it'd give me an extra hour or so free time a week!

ganstaman, I would be absolutely willing to do a malkovich game with you, but I think it's best if we wait until after the holidays to do it. I'm going out of town for two weeks, leaving on Saturday, and while I'll have limited internet access for quick check-ins, a game like this would probably get left alone. After the New Year though I'll start it up, if you're still interested.

Yeah, waiting until soon after New Years is fine. Gives me more time to work on my game...

Just start up the thread when you're ready, I should still be checking in at least daily.

Epic.

I'm on ganstaman's side because I'm assuming he's the underdog here, and I love it when the underdog wins. Like John Higgins the other day. Unbelievable

I'm actually pretty sure I'm the underdog. You know how they say that "Those who can, do, and those who can't, teach?" I run these tournaments for pretty much the same reason

No stealing my supporters!

On FICS, my blitz rating is higher than yours, but your standard rating is higher than mine.

I've been playing a fair amount of blitz lately, and hit my peak FICS rating (1347) within the last month, though I've since dropped 50 points off of that mark. The standard rating you mention is based on a total of 26 games, all but five of which were played in 2003 (and your standard rating is based on three games). So I'd be inclined to say the blitz rating is probably more accurate, and your CURRENT rating is 81 points above my PEAK rating there.

Also, I have a USCF provisional rating of 1246, based on three tournaments when I was in high school (2001-2002) and one tourney the following year as a college freshman (19 games total). For whatever that's worth, lol.

Moral of the story: you are probably better than me, although the margin is probably pretty small. Certainly we're close enough in ability that we should be able to put together a competitive and relatively evenly matched (if not "well played") game. And ultimately we both suck compared to a lot of the posters here, so we will most likely provide plenty of opportunities for our spectators to LOL in the spoilers

I graduated high school in 2003, so it would seem that you're just a year older than me. I always assumed you were much older.
