I saw this for the first time today and thought it was too good not to share. Black (Predrag Nikolic) played 11...dxe3 to reach the following position.
Kasparov thought for a while and responded with 12.fxe3. Amazing. Here is what GM Murray Chandler had to say.
"Here Kasparov sank into thought, which appeared to some onlookers to be a waste of precious minutes. Why not immediately play the obvious 12.Bxe3 and see, where Black's queen goes, before thinking?"
Then 12.fxe3 is played.
"The question was answered. Remarkable. White deliberately gives himself an isolated e-pawn."
I think it's such a great move because I think nearly everyone would capture with the bishop for the reasons given by Chandler. It's even more impressive to me because this isn't one of those positions where the pawn opens the f-file for immediate use or obviously keeps a knight out of a square.
Here is the full game for those that are interested.
