Anand may have missed one of his best chances to win ( and with Black! ) and if the first twelve games don't decide the match, I would think the faster time controls will favor Carlsen. Also, I agree with some of the kibitzers at chessbomb: after the game, there was one of the worst ever press conferences from any chess event ( there seemed to be many strange questions ). I think Carlsen may eventually give up on 1. Nf3 and enter Anand's ( or his team's ) opening preparation eventually. Carlsen has to be happy to escape with a draw.
I agree about the press conference. Both players were clearly drained, and so many repetitive questions.. I mean the most exciting game so far with some quite interesting ideas and all people want to know is if they are happy that Kasparov was there?
Do they let chess players into the media room?
Of course it's not like they need to do a full analysis or anything, but pretty sure going over some key points in the game would be nicer. They really need to sort out that electronic board though.
On ICC, it seems like Fedorowicz thoughtAnand wussed out. Particularly, not going into ...Bxb2. Afterachieving the best position out of the opening with 1.e4 in decades the game before.....
I know now that the computer has carlsen's d3 as a blunder, but when he made the move Anand looked surprised/scared and not surprised/happy. If so that would have colored his choice for/against Bxb2. Of course, I may be nuts.
Pretty interesting game. I would have preferred if instead of 37...Rd8 (basically trading down to a draw) Anand would have kept the pressure on with 37...Bd4 with the idea of Rf8. I know that at best play white can make a draw but he has to play very precise and there are a lot of ways to go wrong. Trading rooks gave Carlsen an easy draw
chessbomb at least. also the official website has an option where you get both the chessbomb board and the video (live video and computer analysis or something like that)
For why it was sloppy, compare to this corr game of mine for example: http://www.chess.com/echess/game?id=68007944. White played a very good setup here and I failed to develop. Not trying to say my games are WCh level but that the way Anand played was mysteriously bad
