Kasparov should be doing the commentary with a play-by-play guy. Maybe Kramnik for a bit. The female commentator just advocated sacrificing a pawn because "it's not our game anyway, haha!"

Sofia rule doesn't forbid draws by repetition or stalemate. Maybe you are thinking of the ko rule.

Which is what the match needed ---> Vishy with a clean start with Black. Lets hope we some good Vishy preparation tommorrow.

Judging only from the first game, Anand is nowhere near as big an underdog as some people have predicted.

I expect Anand to go 1.d4 with a Gruenfeld defense. We'll see though.

Let's remember the first game of Anand-Kramnik wasn't much better, Kramnik going for a sterile exchange slav. I don't think taking a quick draw was carlsen's plan here though, he just hated his position

True, but after that game Kramnik defended his opening choice--he felt like it wasn't as easy for Black as it looked. For sure I don't think this was intended as a quick draw--and I understand the desire to "get into" the match with a less critical game.

I don't put too much stock into it, but to the extent that one of the stories told before this match was "Carlsen will play whatever in the opening and then grind Anand down" this has to be considered a big psychological success for Vishy.

basically carlsen required an illness clause in the contract cause he was terrified of the indian food giving him food poisoning. some guy was hounding him about the contract and he refused to answer any questions about it probably cause he didnt want to hurt anyone's feelings saying their food makes people sick
