i know this is an opinion thread but cmon. Anyone >2000 strength would solve this in under a minute over the board without prompting, a titled player would see it almost instantly.

Saw this pretty instantly and I'm prob. out of practice enough I'm pretty bad at tactics, there just aren't many moves that could even by candidates for winning.

I wish there was a way they could make tactics puzzles that simulate real games(ie. only a small % of the time there is some ridiculous combo, rather than every single board having a way to arrive at a clear win within a few moves). I found when I was playing chess, I'd occasionally look for something ridiculously deep just because so much of my practice was looking for tactics and in practice, there always is an answer.

That is my complaint about tactics problems, actualie. I mean, I can spot lots of tactics if I know that it's "white to move and win".

But what about when it is "white to move and who knows whether there are tacitcs or not imo"

Supposedly, as a result of training tactics, your brain goes "a-ha, i've seen a piece constellation similar to this and there was this tactic available" and you can apply -> profit

I'm posting this one here because the motif is similar. This was originally published in Tim Krabbe's Open Chess Diary

to quote from there: "After 11...Kh8 (see diagram), White still seems to lose the Ne5. What should he play? Hendriks showed the position to various strong players, "and some of them couldn't find it, even after a long think."

that's a very cool position but is it actually winning for White? Or is it just that after any other move White is way worse?

Yes, very interesting; White might be much better ( quick analysis ):

1...g6 2. Qc3: maybe if 2...Nf6 3. Bxg6 works
1...Bg4? 2. Bxh5 (or 2. Qxg4 Qxe5 3. Nc3 )
1...Qb4+ 2. Nc3

this may make me sound like an idiot but why not just

Spoiler:
1. Qg3 Rxf7 with maybe a tiny advantage to White
