Anyone watch this? I've been watching them quite a bit lately and they are a pretty mixed bag (some super low rated players whose content is weak, some GMs whose content is good but difficult to figure out their accents). Thinking of starting one myself tbh.

I see the chess.com streamer challenge is today, would encourage you to check it out (my preference is stream chessbrah - GM Eric Hansen).

I've always just preferred watching live games in youtube format. The interactivity isn't a bonus when someone is playing chess because you shouldn't be discussing the position with them. I'll watch from time to time, but for the most part I will just watch my chess on youtube. Can't imagine enjoying watching anyone play more than I enjoy John Bartholomew, anyway.

It turns out John is pretty great at commentating during a live stream too. I guess the interactivity might show up the most in the post mortem where he can answer specific viewer questions. Although, it really doesn't seem like live stream vs. recorded stream makes a very big difference for chess.

Yeah, I don't see any real difference between commentating during a live stream and during a recording. It's pretty much the exact same thing. I suppose in the post mortem there might be a slight benefit, but you can ask questions in the youtube comments after his recordings and he will often answer. Seems like a wash to me.

The one thing with a live stream is they can't cherry pick which games to post, so if you want to see a complete trainwreck you'd be more likely to get that on a live stream.

Sure, but I tend to avoid the players that cherry pick once I find out they do. For instance, I don't watch kingscrusher at all because he's the worlds worst cherry picker.
