What I want:

1)Some sort of engine that is 'good'
2)A DB with as many old games as possible, and ability to buy more games

What I don't need:

1)An engine rated 589543 because the previous engine only rated 345829 totally sucks
2)The ability to run a nuclear war from my chess program

Like seriously, these things cost $1Billion and have so much functionality I'm never gonna use, all I want is the friggan DB and an engine that reasonably evaluates. Suggestions?

Get the 2016 Maybach Patzer Pro 2800

It comes exclusively built in to an actual Maybach vehicle, which is a little cumbersome, but it's worth it.

I should add the engine only evaluates if driving above 55mph. But then will blow up if you drop below 50, so make sure you have a Keanu Reeves with you.

Hey Gorgonia,

Thanks so much! I guess I'm a bit of a computer idiot I managed to find and D/L the chess program and engine but I can't seem to figure out how to D/L the games link you gave unto it. I tried opening the file with the Scid vs PC program but that failed. I also saved the files to my computer but I can't figure out how to import them to the application,

Unzip the file to a directory of your choice. Within SCID vs. PC click file-open and navigate to the .si4 file in the directory you just unzipped it into. Bam, your database is open and ready to use.

ugh I just cant seem to figure out how to get this to work. After a slew of randomly pressing buttons it appears I got the games to load but in the thing but when i tried to open individual games it complained the games were corrupted.

Not sure what unzipping is or how to do it.

Zipping/unizipping archive files is pretty computer 101. Have you tried Googling for any of your questions. E.g. "unzip files"....

Also, I'm now just very curious, how old are you?

30. Yes I tried googling, I suspect I pay have an issue here outside normalcy. My computer is new and pretty vacant of any extra programs and applications. Is there something I need to have for unzipping?

I think winrar, http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR-64-b...-10965579.html, is likely still the most common. You can just never donate or whatever and use it for free.

.zip files are very, very common though so I'm just simply surprised you're not familiar with them at all. But maybe you were able to unzip it fine anyway since it seems you were able to get some games into the database?

Paying for something would at least provide you with a user guide most likely and/or youtube videos of how to do things. But, yeah, the route your going makes the most sense unless you want to illegally obtain paid stuff.

Anyone who has ever requested a playing history audit from Stars knows that 7-Zip is a good free open-source unzipper. The reason why Stars recommend it is that it's capable of extracting password-protected files.

Windows just opens zip files like normal folders nowadays guys. You don't need extra software unless you are like on XP or earlier.

^ Windows 7 can't open an HTML file from an archive or run an executable from there without unpacking. And that's the version that we, poker players, need to stick to while it's supported because poker clients tend to have compatibility issues with newer Windows versions.

Well right, but the "unpacker" is built into the operating system. You don't need extra software. Just click "extract all" or whatever it is in 7.

There are free interfaces and free engines. U pick whatever type of engine u like and if needed limit its depth or time. Some engines play solid while others play tricky up to aggressively and beat u in 10 moves when vs a solid engine u might still be around in the endgame.

Chess.com has an engine i sometimes login to play with my tablet, for free, and i just pick a level 7 if i want an average to easy game and level 8 for a tough game when i will be playing very solid systems as my black play is not going to hold against it otherwise. Level 7 gives me the possibility to play whatever just that level 7 doesnt play seriously enough and makes some up to blunders, so allinall level 8 with white and level 7 with black, until one wants an extra tough black game or a loose white game. It also makes some tricky cheapo moves. If u survive to an equal endgame, u have some edge. The board is easy to play, no visual problem.
