Regs might have seen this one before. I haven't read the sticky so I hope this is okay, apologies if not.

It's white to move, mate in 6 moves, I looked for over an hour and half, before giving up and checking answer, I also ran it through CM 10th edition which got mate in 8 moves against itself. See if you can get both.

nice problem. I needed ~10 minutes to find the solution (while single-tabling). I saw the motive pretty quickly, but the execution is not so easy. I only found the mate in 6 though.

Only see the mate in eight ( maybe I'll give this an hour or so ).

Spoiler:

Mate in 8 :

1. Rh1 d4 2. Rc1 d3 3. Nd6 ed6 4. c7: e.g., 4...Nxc7 5. Rxc7 d5 6. Rxb6 (or Rd6) with the unstoppable mate in two starting with 7. Bf6+.

Okay, another joke!

There is a "trick answer" that is a mate in six:
Spoiler:
1. ba6 e.p. with Black's last move being ...a5: e.g., 2. a7 d3 3. Ka2 Nb6 4. Nxb6 etc.

Small hint to the motive for those who don't want to spend too much time on this:
Spoiler:
If you take black's pawn b4 off the board it is mate in 4

Spoiler:
sick, took me only one minute to spot the mating motive, then spent another 5 trying to make it work but with Rh1-c1-c3. Then gave up
