LOL, hoping for a "yes", hehe. And not particularly worried that there's much chance of anything else, for that matter.

That's awesome!!!! Do you have a plan of how to propose?

If you don't have one yet, do it during a game of chess, and let her promote to a pawn.

Then when she reaches for the queen, whip out the ring and say "How about promoting to this?"

Congrats BJJ!!!!

But I think you should delete all related posts, JUST IN CASE you kno? It's a pretty big deal, if there is at least 0.5% chance that she might somehow read this then it's not worth it to have these posts here

Philisophically, I don't really like the word "impossible", so I won't use it, but definitely you need a few more zeroes between the "0." and the "5%" to make your post represent the actual odds. I feel safe enough, lol.

Also, All-in, I love that idea. I should definitely teach her chess today, and then convince her that instead of going to the nicest restaurant in town tomorrow night for our anniversary, we should stay home and play chess instead. Just so I can bust it out

My wife does not get amused when I bust it out during chess.

Imagine such scenario:

John Doe's ELO is exactly 1800. He plays in a tournament where he gains 0.4 ELO (so technically his ELO is now 1800.4) and then doesn't play any other tournaments in the current rating period. When the new ratings come out, he is still rated 1800. Now in a new period he goes ahead and plays one more tournament, where he gains 0.2 ELO and doesn't play anything else in this period. When the new ratings come out, will he be rated 1801 (because the 0.4 from previous calculation stayed there and he reached 1800.6) or stay 1800 (because 0.4 dissapeared?)

edit: this is not a puzzle or anything, I honestly don't know the answer and was curious as to how it actually works in such situations.

Pretty sure the 0.4 disappears once a new rating list is published. This is based entirely on guesswork, but I'm willing to claim I'm "pretty sure" anyway. Now. Back to me. I have this ****-eating grin on my face that just won't go away. I'm pretty sure it's going to be there for a long long time

I'm not sure if you seriously did my idea or not, so how did you propose!?

Also it's probably a good idea to teach your girlfriend chess before you propose..

Spoiler:
you gotta know how she mates!

I took her to the fanciest restaurant in town for our anniversary, and after dinner told her I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her (in more words than that), got down on one knee, showed her the ring and asked her to marry me.

I figured that in this case, romantic cliches were a better plan than chess
