I am going to play in the Vienna Open (Homepage) in August probably. I won't know for sure until the beginning of August, though.
Fwiw, this is the playing venue: Wiener Rathaus. Very stylish.
But it's not as big as Pardubice, obviously. Based on the two last Vienna Opens, I'd guess there will be about 200 participants, 30 of whom are GM or IM.

I might be playing the B-open at pardubice. Probably depends on if players from my club go there too.

Based on the success of some recent threads in the Chess forum, I have some ideas for new interesting threads:

"Chess vs Yahtzee, which game is more complicated?"
"Chess vs Connect_Four, which game is more complicated?"
"Chess vs Tic-Tac-Toe, which game is more complicated?"
"Chess vs Monopoly, which game is more complicated?"
"Chess vs Football, which game is more complicated?" (Real football, not American)

I wonder which of these threads would have the biggest trainwreck potential. Seriously, this absurd "Poker vs Chess" discussion is tilting me.

I was looking at the prizes for this. It seems you have to win a tournament just to cover travel costs. Does the money in chess only come from the prize pools or are there sponsorship opportunities or something else along those lines? If it doesn't do people fly in at a cost just for the joy of playing?

GMs normally get conditions, i.e. the organiser pays their expenses. Everyone else basically has no shot at winning anything and plays for fun. It's not like a poker tournament where every decent player can expect a positive ROI.

DITTO x 1mirrion

I really wished the "Poker vs. Chess" thread would have died when it started, or even better yet Locked.

Couldn't pull through on the latter as I am not a Mod

Fortunately it can be ignored as long as it's contained to ONE THREAD.

Boom headshot, played a game where the opponent mangled the opening, but then played a decent middlegame, but then got owned in the endgame

Will post in my games thread soon

It was worth mentioning because I think he got tilted and wouldn't resign and then was sort of mad afterwards

You need the chess fonts. I BELIEVE you can get them if you download/install chessbase light.

This forum seems pretty dead lately.

Too bad there aren't any hot female chess players or I would post pics of them.
